First off I like that MLS cup is played at home stadiums instead of at neutral venues, but IMO MLS Cup final should be a home and home series.

Since it is no longer played at a neutral site, which allows both teams fans a fare grab at tickets, then having just a 1 game final makes it an unfair advantage for the home side.

Having a two legged series would allow both fan bases to cheer on their boys.

How many New England fans will really be in attendance in LA? 200, 300, 400. Highly doubtful it's more than that.

Now if MLS wants to go back to the whole having MLS cup final at a neutral site, then yes a 1 game final makes sense. But a 1 game final does not make sense with their current incarnation. It should be a home and home final.

No 1 game is Perfect. Plus it makes the regular season more worth it because the team that did better deserves to have the home field. A 2 leg final series will lose interest for the general American soccer fan plus with all the goal aggregate confusion it will make it less appealing. The MLS Cup is a commemoration of the season no way it should be 2 legged series. Say a team wins 3-0 or 4-1 the first game then it loses all meaning for the 2nd game not many people will watch.

He has his lucid moments when he decides to take his medication.

But I think it should be one game. It makes the regular season very important. However one game at a neutral site isn't bad whatsoever.

Hey Yanks Abroad!

Long time lurker here, but work is super slow today, so I thought I'd finally sign up. Might as well jump right into it...

I like that the MLS Final is only game. Nothing beats a (single game) cup final. I do see 2tone's point about it being unfair now that it's a home match for one team, so they should do something like the Super Bowl where it moves from stadium to stadium.

Didn't they start making it a home match a few seasons ago to help LA win a title with Beckham?

Does anyone like that the CCL is two-legged final? I think it takes the thrill out of the game. Surely two teams who have made it out of the group and through the knockout rounds to final both deserve to win.

Anyway, feels good to jump in with all you crazy characters that I feel like I know too well for being complete strangers on an Internet message board. Ha!

Cheers!

Agree. One game is the way to go. Can you imagine a team wins the first leg 2-0 then parks the bus and loses 1-0 in the second leg. I don't think mls or NBC want the final to be one by a team that loses as it just looks bad for tv.

Ideally it'd be a neutral site but like you said, how many revs fans will be in la?200?400? How many would be in Kansas City? 200?400. At least with one team being at home your guarantees close to if not more than 20k in attendance and a good tv atmosphere.

I disagree. I like that the Copa Libertadores is a two legged home and home series. If it's not a neutral venue then it makes no sense for it to be a 1 game final.

But I get why people like the 1 game scenario, especially if your team is the one hosting the final, right admsghs27?

Hypotetically 2 legged series makes sense, but we are not an international tournament like Copa libertadores we play in America is like saying the superbowl should be home and away it will never happen. And I know some people will say look at NBA or MLB it doesn't work that way plus even then the best regular season team gets an advantage 4-3 on home field. @2tone you been on YA since 2012 and been trough 3 MLS cups now then why bring the discussion now ?? I know your a sounders fan that might be a good reason but most would agree 1 game for a final is perfect. Imagine a Champs league 2 leg series it will lose its meaning in europe, I respect your opinion 2tone but I disagree with you no hard feelings.

Not sure about a 1 game neutral site, it would probably have the problem 2tone stated for the away fans, except with not sets of teams. As long as each team plays the other conference's team once, there should be a head to head matchup within the season used to determine the home team. Most years, one super dominant eastern conference team racks up points against crap, while the dogfight of the west limits potential points. The supporters shield is for the best record. Let regular season head to head determine the MLS cup host, because as the kid says, 1 game is best.

Well that's the whole point behind a debate. But what does me being a Sounders fan have anything to do with my opinion? The Sounders haven't been in an MLS cup final. I think it's an injustice to a fan base to not be able to come and cheer on your team in mass numbers. That's why if it stays a one game final, I hope they move it back to a neutral stadium. That way both fan bases have an even shot at tickets and supporting your team.
