With MLS Cup week there have been a lot of random MLS tidbits in the news. Figured Id summarize them here and give my opinion on what they mean.

DC Council voted yes on the latest stadium proposal. Would be a huge win for one of the founding fathers of MLS and one of the last remaining dinosaur stadiums.

Minnesota Vikings bid shows off latest proposal- The new Vikings Stadium is being billed as an upgrade from the Sounders situation. It would be a 65,000 seat stadium that has curtains come down from the rafters with ads to block off the top sides and creat a moreenclosed feel bringing it down to 20k seats. They then have the option to open up certain sections to bring the seating to 28k, 34k, or all the way to 65k. Yes it'll be turf but it seems better than other recent proposals for football/soccer dual stadiums (cough cough atlanta)

Garber also expressed optimisim/concern about the upcoming CBA. TO me its unfortunate that the CBA is this offseason and not next. Players may play hardball seeing the horizon while owners wont want to take into consideration money not there yet. If there is any work stoppage it would kill MLS.

Wright Phillips is taking Henry's DP slot. Talk about over reacting to a good year for a role player. I guarentee NYRB will regret this move next year. Good for him to take advantage of his huge season but how does NYRB management not see that without Henry and Cahill he's nothing and no need to overpay a guy like him.

Great information!

The only thing that I liked about the whole address was Garber stating if MLS played on the winter schedule, the stadiums would have to be domes or more enclosed! My question is why is that not happening now? Boston and DC have the opportunity to make the league better but the DC renderings and boston proposal is still a joke.

Garber got called out on a lot of things but really didn't answer anything. He avoided the question about raising to 4 DPs.

I'm hoping the NY red bulls bring in another big name player!

Blaise are you seriously advocating that DC United should play in a dome?! Vomit.

I'm fine with their new stadium, let's just get through Dec. 16!

I don't think he's advocating for domes per say. Just that if mls ever wanted to consider going to the winter schedule we'd need domes in northern cities. By building a new stadium in these cities without domes pretty much puts to bed the possibility.

I like the summer schedule. There' a small overlap with the NBA, NFL and NHL but for the most part its just MLB and MLS. It's also enjoyable to spend a day/night out in the nice weather and that's before domes enter the conversation.

MLS just needs to schedule around FIFA dates and we're set. Admittedly, they've been doing a progressively better job with this year-on-year but we're still not there yet (i.e. take a few weeks off for the Gold Cup).

A good idea before FIFA dates would be to schedule 2 games in a week before 2 weeks of a FIFA date. Which isn't that bad a couple times a year but what I'm wondering is in 2015. There will be a lot of FIFA dates and long term including the sub 20 WC. Maybe that's 1 reason why usa did not want to participate in the 2015 Cops.America. And on top of that won't be surprised if more MNT pool players come to MLS next year. Altidore, Mix, bedoya, etc...

By comparison to the Minnesota proposal this is the BC Place setup for Whitecap games. I'm not thrilled about BC Place because its indoors and turf but at least their arrangement doesn't make your eyes bleed.

Adam I agree with you that adding a few midweek games to accommodate long FIFA dates like the Gold Cup isn't that big of a deal.

On the other hand, MLS shouldn't break for U-20 tournaments. If they lose a few players so be it.

Yeah the summer schedule is still a plus. MLS doesnt do it often but they should play more games midweek. Love to see some M/T/W night games on ESPN/FOX in the future
