9 months recovery puts him at September 2015. I assume he will start actually training with the team around late September which puts him at sometime at the end of October for first team minutes. That's if everything goes well during surgery and recovery. He could conceivably be back with the USMNT by the time WC qualifying kicks off in the summer of 2016.

But his USMNT status will depend on exactly how well the USMNT FWD corps is by 2016.

Young players like Rubin, Novakovich, and possibly Spencer may well be in the picture.

Then you still have Altidore, Johannsson, Dempsey, and probably Zardes, and who knows maybe Agudelo is back in the picture, or maybe Salgado starts to live up to expectations.

I still predict Jordan Morris as more of a winger/LAM/RAM at the national team and club level not a striker.

So Boyd could very well find himself not in the USMNT picture come 2016. But remember both Copa America and the Summer Olympics are that summer which means Klinsmann will have to balance both teams if the US qualifies for the Olympics. That may benefit Boyd if such players like Morris, Rubin, Spencer, Salgado, or Novakovich are on the Olympic team.

Why are some people still hopeful on Salgado. I havent seen the guy play in years and he isn't exactly that young compared to other youth players we have playing consistently. But who knows he might have a good season next year, last I heard he was with NYCFC.

9 months is also a fairly realistic and conservative recovery time. Many players come back a little quicker than that, some a little later if they have complications. Personally(not that it's the same level of course), I was back training without restriction at 7-8 months and in full contact matches at 9 and that included a minor setback.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Boyd back in first team training at 7-8 months and 2tone raises a good point with the full schedule the national team will have. There will be multiple opportunities for Klinsmann to get a look at various players even if the striker pool has deepened by then. This certainly hurts his chances, but doesn't shut the door.

I see that your comment was meant for me. A. Salgado just turned 21 years old. B. I have heard he impressed with Tigres in Mexico and a trail and is set to leave MLS for Tigres. C. His ankle injury really set him back at a time when he was rising within Vancouver's ranks. D. The guy has plenty of time to make a comeback.

Slagado, Agudelo etc... all have time to right the ship. What other youth FWDS younger than Salgado are playing consistently right now? Rubio Rubin that's it.

At his age or younger I'm sure there are plenty of fwds/attackers that have played much more than him this past few years even if it's for the 2nd team or on loan elsewhere. Just to name some Paul Arriola, Mc Bean Bradford Jamieson IV Tommy Thompson, Novakovich, Yomba, even Jordan Morris though in college/sounders, Alonso Hernandez, Julian Green etc.. I'm sure i missed others, and players close to his age maybe a year or two difference are Zardes, Wood, Akindele, McInerney, shipp etc... But most i mentioned are playing now even if is for the 2nd team and others are in the mix if anything ranked over Salgado at the moment.

Uhm, Salgado was playing with Vancouvers first team, reserve team, and with the Harrisburg City Islanders the past couple of years, so your argument really doesn't stand up.

How many games did he play for Vancouver this year ?? And even then I wanna see his stats and production for the other teams. Not so great compared to some of the players I mentioned, if he is young enough to make it then I give Freddy Adu a heck of a chance as well.

I didnt say he itll be 2017 before hes recovered. I said 2017 before he gets a chance with US.

Assume 9-12 months recovery time (2nd injur, will likely not push his recovery this time).
Recovery from ACL- Winter 2015. I'd say that there;s a strong likelihood they wait until the winter break to integrate him.
Integrate into 1st team Jan/Feb 2016
Highly doubt he's getting consistent 1st team minutes in end of soccer year 2016.
Summer 2016- Still not a full time starter, not getting consistent minutes. Shouldnt get looks if thats the case.
Fall 2016 if everything goes well and he doesnt lose skills, pace, athleticism, standing with the team he's a starter again.
Usually it takes a couple of months to get called back to us when you've been gone awhile (see Castillo, Chandler, etc)

Throw in the fact that 2016 sept through november windows will be WCQ I doubt he goes from zero us appearances in 3-4 years to qualifying matches and best case scenario he gets december 2016 friendly to get called in, or, like I said, likely wait until 2017.

It's far more likely that he will be resuming some level training by next pre-season camp and is training full time shortly after the start of the 2015-16 season. I'd be shocked if he isn't playing meaningful minutes for a club, either with RB Leipzig or on loan, by November of 2015, if not earlier. If he's performing, he'll be getting call ups for the MNT by early 2016. That is, unless other players in the pool have passed him, which is possible. But the odds that his injury is going to keep him out for 2+ years? No chance. That's Stu Holden type recovery time after multiple, more severe injuries.

Yeah this is a Horrible situation for Boyd a 2nd major injury will set him back even farther specially since it was the same knee hopefully he plays by 2016 because I'm predicting he wont play for USA in all of 2015 because after July there wont be much left internationally wise just some random friendlies here and there. Which sucks i really wanted to see him play this year i felt he was in for a big year.

In an attempt to lift my spirits after this weekend's disappointment, I went searching for updates on guys we havent talked about in a while. Bad decision.

Boyd just suffered another injury setback on Monday. No time table on his return but it probably won't be until 2016.

Said he needed fluid removed from his knee so probably like 4 months. I think he needs to take a break for another season and then figure things out.

Sounds like Boyd is pushing for a loan to RasenBallsport New York next season.
