I think Birnbaum might beat out Gonzalez or Brooks for the gold cup imo. Probably Gonzalez because i think they are similar players.

I like Birnbaum but I still think he needs more seasoning on the international level. Brooks was one of the better players when we played friendlies the past 6 months. Omar Gonzalez other then a couple friendlies played well in the world cup. I could see it potentially happening during the world cup cycle but I think the gold cup is 2 soon to expect Birnbaum to overtake gonzalez potentially.

Did Michael Bradley play today? I couldn't tell. (I have this line copied on my computer since before the WC. I just hit control + V)
If you don't love it, leave it, USA #1

what crack are people smoking thinking that was anywhere close to a chile B team?

chile starters caps entering tonight:
cornejo - 1
pulgar - 1
espinoza - 1
medel - 1
valdez - 1
carrasco - 4
gutierrez - 5

US started 8 on JKs WC roster

not only did chile win the game, they controlled possession and outshot US 20-12

a 3-5-2 with a converted CM as your CCD? really?
dempsey and then jozy as your AM/playmaker (in first half) so you can get bobby fucking wood on the field? seriously?

JK is a freaking idiot but i dont get why so many USMNT fans dont understand that some "experiments", if they are not grounded in some sort of logic, are simply a complete waste of time

I'd like to see the 3-5-2 against Panama...and maybe for a couple more games. We need to see it what it looks like with the full side.

I didn't like Deuce under the two forwards. It was pretty bad, Jozy was dropping and covering for him defensively...weird

Both of our goals were beautiful.

Yedlin was great until he bonked.

Birnbaum was good.

I'd like to see Birnbaum -Besler- O'Neil as the back three versus Panama

JJ drives me nuts...he played exactly like I thought he would. Giving him the keys to the back line D and asking him to make non stop moment of truth critical decisions...and giving him the green light to run himself out of position...which causes everybody to have to shift unexpectedly on the fly to cover his forays is just flat out ridiculous.

I thought Zardes moved the ball quickly...he had good tempo in combo play.

I'd like to see Nguyen in Deuce's position in the 3-5-2

---Dempsey--Zardes---
------Nguyen------
----Bradley---Mix----
??--------------Yedlin
--Birny--Besler--O'Niell--

I could fuck with that. Dempsey should be a forward these days, which I'm fine with. I think those three up top would play really well with each other. Ibarra for Dempsey in the 60th.

So the 4-4-2 is our best formation except when it's not....

Formations can all work/ not work. Yedlin was awesome as RWB.

Lol at mls site, saying lee nguyen was mostly confined to possession passing... yes the kind that was missing in the first half, and i would argue that while he missed a pass to altidore, he wans't p erfect, he's still getting his legs, but there was one midfielder who was constantly pushing the ball into the box (diskerud was already in the box setup by yedlin) and it wasn't anyone not named nguyen

"Lee Nguyen (5) - Mostly confined to possession passing, the Revs spark-plug lacked an edge in the final third. His inability to slip Altidore in alone on 57 minutes came back to bite moments later."

on one play, he put Gyasi on traget 1 v 1 with the keeper, I don't blame Zardes for the miss it was something an older more clinical player (like altidore, too bad he doesn't run into space anymore) would put away.

Trapp was also not played as a DM, I know he's not a true destroyer, but he is best when he has time in the back and finds an open man, which brings me to two points

Emerson Hyndman looks much more ready for this than Trapp, I have to express yet again the fact that he's privately trained by professional sports team in a professional setting much more effectively than Trapp has (college, MLS).

Trapp and Bradley can't play together if Bradley insists on being that deep lying guy, it totally takes trapp spatial acumen out of the picture. There was one pass bradley gave to him in traffic which was tough to handle but Bradley didn't push forward into open space, which trapp was waiting for, so trapp coughed up the ball. nguyen was to blame too, as a cam, in a higuian type role he should be down there providing numbers. But right now in a tourney, I would have Bradley over Trapp.

Wondo did a great job i think. Got in behind defenses, worked hard int he midfield to retain possession. (ps I hate wondo =( )

I just don't like the 4-3-3, and I want Bradley to demand his balls back from whatever wench took them. I need him to be more involved in the attack.

I thought Bradley looked fine, he was just as confused as everyone in the first half, he got forward made good passes, sometimes great passes to spray the ball around, andhe was every where on defense. Speaking of defense, did anyone notice diskerud's mettle in defending?

Where was Altidore's hold up play? and which do we prefer, Zardes running behind the line, extending our attack byl moving down the feild, or altidore in fornt of 4 defenders trying to hold the bal lup?

I'd just like to see wondo from the start instead of all these imitation strikers we hope will make a run or get a chance or track someone down. Up top, next to Jozy. That's our best front two. Dempsey/Jozy not quick enough, Wood (I think we all know he's not good enough yet), Zardes looked ok last nite but he's still a hope he will be something one day guy. That is- if we are talking about winning now. If it doesn't matter if we win, then play whoever. But for all you results driven Jurgen haters, wondo should actually be your guy. Otherwise you are talking out of both sides of your mouth. He's the most accomplished MLS player aside from Rimando on the national team. Defeating your ultimate argument of MLS, by the way. Bunch of front running non supporters, I can't believe you all still crap on wondo...

He looked fine, yes, but I just miss pre-injury Bradley. He looked okay though. I prefer Zardes, honestly. Speed up front is less of a concern for me than good ball movement, hence my preferred lineup.

Will the Gold Cup be Dempsey's last tournament as a USMNT starter? I think it will be.

It would be great for the USMNT if somebody stepped up to unseat Dempsey... but who can do it? He can play a few positions better than a lot of the competitors...
