Bye bye Montreal. Good run but America is the better side.

Well, America's better, but the refs have influenced both matches by under-carding America while carding Montreal normally.

Club level Mexico still has the better teams. MLS still has a few years to go.

Instant vicious debate starter (ok not on this site it isn't):

Is CONCACAF the 3rd best region, between club and country?

(Note that I'm not claiming this based on Concacaf CL quality, by any means)

Depends how much weight you give to Club vs Country. It has to be either Concacaf or CAF. I give more weight to country so I'd go with CAF as the Africa Cup of Nations is far superior to the Gold Cup in my opinion. Club wise both Liga MX and MLS are better than anything Africa has to offer.

America just ripped the Impact to shreds in the past few minutes. Why is Reo-Coker playing RB?

It could have went either way. The ref chose to warn Alvarado. Which I applaud.

I have said it before. Until MLS takes off the shackles a bit for their teams; Mexican teams will continue to win this tournament.

LA, Seattle etc.... Teams with good payrolls have also been steamrolled by Mexican teams in the knockout rounds.

Hmm.... yeah Concacaf has too many minnows by number of nations.
It depends on how you frame the question.

If you look at FIFA rankings and the ELO rankings:
- the best 2 Concacaf teams are better than the best 2 CAF teams.
- the top 4 Concacaf teams are about the same as the top 11 CAF teams
- the top ~20 teams from CAF are better than all but the top 2-4 Concacaf teams, depending on how you look at it

also
- the ELO website is a total joke

Good run Montreal.

Congrats Ventura Alvarado and America. Now Alvarado can showcase himself in the CWC. I could see Alvarado start to get serious European interest soon.

'went'?

It should not have gone either way, it was a clear tactical foul that killed an attack, and not an honest challenge. It's a caution. It's not the type of call that should be pulled back because the player already has a card or not.
Why do you think FIFA started cautioning ALL tactical fouls in the 90's? Because if you don't, the defenders will take it every time.
Furthermore, the comparable play for Montreal was cautioned.....

Yep, for a mix of reasons, but the main one being that Mex league is better overall, and spends more on their average player salary. The bottom 8 of the XI for the Mex club will be heads and shoulders better than the bottom 8 of XI for the MLS club.

Meh. I have seen those go either way in many leagues. I have seen those go either way in Fifa WC games as well.

Depth and finishing really killed Montreal IMO. Injuries had them using Reo-Coker as RB since both regular RBs, Victor Cabrera and Hassoun Camara, were injured. Reo-Coker has done it before, it did not work out tonight. No backup goalie: Nicht was okay, but clearly nervous the whole night. No depth on the bench to help out.

Finishing!!!!! In last week's and today's game, America's back line was there for the taking by the Impact counterattack. Montreal had three clear cut chances to get at least two additional goals in last week's game in the first half that they whiffed on. Today, they had one additional clear cut opportunity in the first half that should have been a goal. Except for the dilly dallying of the Montreal player, which allowed the goalie to come up with a huge save. SIGH !

My hats are off to Club America, they finished their chances. That was the difference and will continue to be the difference between the MLS and Liga MX clubs.
