Just finished with Concacaf (easier as many of the smaller nations don't really have many professional players, or pro players in leagues outside of their nation).

Current top 10:
English Premier League - 1607
Serie A - 1302
Bundesliga - 959
Spanish La Liga - 927
Russian Prem League - 788
Liga MX - 541
English Championship - 511
MLS - 501
Turkish SuperLeague - 446
Ligue 1 - 387

Doing CAF next. I expect Ligue 1 to make a big jump, as well as Turkey and the other big 4 to make moves as well.

USAGunner, did you ever come up with a final tally?

I missed this thread originally but good on you USAGunner. I'm just curious to understand your logic as to why the Hex is the only WCQ phase that you're considering for Concacaf whilst the Conmebol and Uefa games all count? That's an extra year of qualifiers that are played in these regions vs Concacaf. Doesn't this bias your analysis?

Yeah you should be using the third round of CONCACAF qualifying as well. I refer to it as the dodecagon round.

I always loved the effort. However I think the best way to accurately get the picture is use only foreigners for the counts. Example how many non American mls guys in this tally? Non Italian serie a? Etc. to me that's a more true count. Some countries (Mexico, Greece, turkey, Russia, for starters) do a great job of keeping their players in their domestic leagues. Very few other top countries look to Russian league or mx for international matches. That speaks much more of the league quality.
