Rather have a blind draw than the big billionaire teams like Europe sign all the world stars they want. Man u just paid over 100$ million for Di maria. Why not do a draw to see which epl team would of landed him maybe a team like hull city etc..

Pumped about Jones going to the Revs. DM has been there weakness the last two years. He should have a field day spraying balls to Diego, Nguyen, Mullins, Davies.

That being said I completely agree with everyone else. What a stupid system. DP slots shouldn't be subject to any allocation processes. Its bull shit that sometimes they do (this one) and sometimes they dont (Clint & Bradley). The league needs to be way more consistent.

After a day to calm down, I still think this is bad. Not only for paying season ticket holders like myself and others, but really anybody not on a team that doesn't have don garbers seal of approval. I bet if la galaxy was interested we wouldn't have seen this stupid draw. Sorry but if he wanted to come to chicago, and we had the contract on the table, he should be a chicago player. This whole process shows what a joke MLS is. I think with what we have on the field this year I may be done with MLS this year. Only a little good weather left this year and so many things to do in the city besides watching bad soccer.

Agreed he makes New England better but so would signing a cheeseburger, a taco, and some dr pepper. F*** New England now we have an even bigger reason to hate you all.

I love the Revs and their style, would definitely like to see teams like them putting out young talent and playing them (Fagundez Rowe) sticking to an attacking ethos playing unconventioanl lineups.

However, our biggest gripe, at least coming into the world cup, was Jones tactical ... let's not call it indiscipline, let's call it preference. He wants to be the guy who's pushing forward, the no. 8. But in a sense, Nguyen occupies that role since they essentially go with a 4 midfield front wtih nguyen rowe fagundez and the RM of the day. The nuance of their style is that one or two in conjunction like to bomb forward and attack from multiple lanes. So you essentially get a "third wing" through the middle with Nguyen. With Jones, I don't see him taking caldwell's spot as a no. 6 or CDM. Not because of ability, but because of who he is as a pl ayer. I'm wondering if NE thought this through.

---Shuttleworth---

Subs:
Imbongo
Davies
Tony Taylor
Bunbury

That is a very strong team, and with only Jones on the books as a DP. IMO this team could win MLS Cup if they went out and got a really good DP target forward and maybe another quality defender! Revs are really looking pretty good on paper these days.

Won't be surprised if they end up missing the playoffs.. it doesn't matter how you look on paper is what you do in the field.

Excellent signing for the league.

When Lalas was talking about the Revs and Fire putting their bids in an envelope and Garber selecting one envelope at random which would be the terms of the deal, I thought only in the MLS. Seriously, what a process!

I completely understand the league's need to remain financially viable and their desire to maintain competitiveness via a salary cap but given that teams have DP slots why can't they go out and negotiate directly with players? This two envelope system makes the league look like a joke.
Smart post!!! I thought the idea of each team having 2 DP's was that they could sign there players with "higher quality" that would take higher salary. Well, if they're DP worthy what difference doesn't it matter which team chooses to sign them? I understand the "bigger vs smaller market" parity structure but that is what the salary cap and worst to best drafting order is suppose to do. A team should be allowed to sign any 3 DP's they wish, they're shouldn't be an order of who gets first refusal!!!!!! I know teams like the Rapids, Crew and other "smaller less attractive" markets could find "Good" DP's harder, seems most want to live in NY, LA or Chicago, but that's why you hire good GM's and recruiter's.

The rivalry grows, Richie. Fire fans (I'm speaking for all of us in this moment) don't like New England, the Patriots, Bob Kraft or his average salad dressing. Before it was a team thing, also that damn Nicol, Twellman, and the other toolbags they used to have (Larentowicz will never be accepted by the Fire fans for this reason).

But this just jumps everything to a new level. Don Garber, you little b****. You nothing but a worm. Anyways, rant over. But it may get ugly as the season fades and Yallop's ugly soccer drones on into the bad weather.

If Chicago fire was willing to put that type of money up for Jermaine Jones, then why didnt they go after Diskerud? Especially since Diskerud backed out of Columbus for more money!

On another note, looks like Ronaldinho won't be coming to MLS!
