Watching the halftime show of Spurs/Seattle. They're interviewing Zusi and Besler, and turns out, both of them have just signed long-term deals with SKC as DP's. So Besler is going nowhere.

Disappointed. I love MLS but I want our NT players playing at the highest level.

Won't be surprised to see Besler phased out this cycle in favor of a European option.

I think Klinsmann will change his tune this cycle and "punish" players for choosing the MLS route. Whether that means diminished plying time or losing your starting job remains to be seen but not happy with this move or stay.

He will be phased out, but hey you never know going up against the mighty Connor Casey instead of Wayne Rooney he might improve his game......

I think it depends on who it is and what their situation is. I don't remember who it was, but someone on here had a good scenario for Besler. He's 27, his stock will probably never be higher than it is. Go overseas now. If you aren't successful after 2 or maybe even 3 years, you can come back to the MLS and still possibly work your way back into the MNT picture.

With Yedlin, I'm fine with him staying for another year. Maybe two. Because he has time. Besler does not. These guys need to be challenging themselves at the highest level. Not here.

If his options were SKC or Fulham, then he made the right decision. Stay in KC and be a hero. It's a low risk option and he'll be guaranteed of plenty of playing time.

Might he lose his spot as a starting CB for the MNT? Maybe, but somebody will have to step up and snatch it away from him. Not a bad problem to have.

I wonder if Jurgen doesn't pick a single MLS player (over the age of 23) for the next 2 years if these guys wake up and realize MLS isn't good enough yet to support our NT and be successful at a WC at the same time. Unfortunately Bradley kills this because he's obviously our best player. But even he isn't needed until Copa 2 years from now. Send the message Jurgen!!!

I'm fine with Besler staying, people act like at 27 he's going to become much more skilled in Europe, late 20's aren't the time to develop as a soccer/football player... For a guy at Yedlin's stage of development going to Europe could reap serious rewards.

By the way, I suspect one major reason for staying stateside is $$$$. MLS clubs are starting to throw the cash around to USMNT players, Besler stated it was a long term deal he signed. Doubt he was getting similar offers overseas.

Im fine with Besler staying too. Learned his game here in MLS and yet was our best defender against world class players in Brazil. At 27 he just about hit his peak or almost has.
Personally I think he was EPL or top 4 league caliber but lets be honest. He would have been in the bench quiet a few times this season which hurts him more then staying and playing everygame in MLS. Also sends a good message about the league and how they value their best players

Agreed the talent pool for cb in the future looks to be developing especially John Brooks who if all goes as plans could be a pretty good cb in the future. I still think besler ends up going to the world cup in 2018 but im not sure as a starter anymore.
