Reports stating that Sunderland and Fulham have made bids. It would be good to have playing CB in Prem. thoughs?

I think he could do well at either club.

I'd love him to go to fulham but they are no longer in the bpl.... so Sunderland would be good. Maybe if Jozy can find his form they can light it up for the USA

Sunderland imo would be amazing. He can definite progress there and show he is quality. Sunderland may not be a good move for attackers but for defenders they sure need alot of quality their.

Concurrent discussion about Besler happening on this thread:

http://locker.yanks-abroad.com/?mode=topics&t...

In a nutshell, smart money says Fulham > Sunderland as the better move.

Why would you leave MLS for the Championship? And Fulham doesn't look like a team that could rebound right back up to the Premier league.

Because they're rebuilding and have money to spend, and already have a very strong youth contingent. Having a CB of Besler's consistency and quality is a like-for-like replacement for Hangeland, who was a player that they built their defense around.

Fulham aren't going to spend more than one, maybe two, seasons getting back to the PL. I'll put money down on that.

Meh. You can't guarantee anything. Matt shouldn't leave MLS for sub par teams. He showed that he doesn't have to play in the big European leagues in order to play against the best.

Whether or not Fulham is a subpar team is a matter of debate, one best reserved for another thread...

MLS is roughly on par with the Championship in terms of quality, though I'd say the Championship has more quality in depth...though that may just be a function of the more lax financial structure. If he can get paid no less than 3x what he's getting now with little to no chance of losing quality, why wouldn't he?

It's not like we're talking about a team like ManU or Chelsea where he'd have almost no shot at making the starting 11...this is a team in transition that needs consistency to build their new team around. Besler gives that to you, and much cheaper than most of the domestic options, I'm sure.

Its a tough call for Besler. Not to forget other teams that are interested so lets not forget that. The only reason he would move to Championship is because he gets more $$$ than in MLS and can continue to be a starter. Fulham are building for a future but gotta remember getting back to the Prem is not easy. Look at Bolton when they went down because of Holden. Ever since that they still havent made it.
In other case I dont know if he will be starting in Sunderland but he will get better and improve playing in the Prem. Both Brown and Oshea arent exactly young and more so then not if you have followed Altidore we have seen Brown get sent of quiet a few times so Besler will get his chance.
I would like to hear from other Leagues. Ultimately I want Besler in a top 4 league. He has the mentality and work rate to succeed

Aston Villa and Stuttgart are also rumored to be making a bid. I dont think fulham on a championship budget will be able to outbid any of these teams. Matt really wants to stay in kansas city I dont think he leaves kansas city unless it is the priemier league or the bundesliga.

Most of you guys don't put enough weight on $$ in these decisions. I actually often forget myself how little these poor SOBs get paid (even high profile ones like Besler) for a career that lasts maybe 10 years. I hope he gets a good payout.

I'd love to see Villa, he'd be able to form that strong bond with Guzan that the NT needs going into 2018. Saw a story on the BBC gossip page that QPR is moving for Vlaar (but for a measly 4m pounds), which I doubt they'll accept after the WC Ron just had...but I don't really expect to see him stay unless Lambert and Co. give him a bumper new deal.

I think everyone is forgetting that Fulham is a LONDON club...a huge raise and getting to live and work in one of the world capitals seems like a no-brainer to me.

Yeah, could you imagine being stuck in Birmingham? Or pretty much anywhere in England for that matter except maybe London? British chicks do dig Americans though that's one plus (although only a handful of decent looking ones). But, maybe better for his soccer development if he is stuck in a hellhole like Newcastle.

#1. Birmingham isn't that bad, plenty of worse places to live.
#2. I hope to God he doesn't go to Villa. If Vlaar leaves, I would see Senderos, Baker and Clark as starters over Besler. Lambert isn't that bad of a manager but with what happened to Lichaj I don't trust him managing USMNT outfield players.
