One or two come to mind in nearly every cycle (some didn't turn out so bad because they were corrected.)

Steve Sampson....4-6-0
Bruce Arena....Jeff Agoos plays in 2002...memory a bit fuzzy on this one, but I don't think he player after early mistakes.
Bob Bradley.....Ricardo Clark. Devastating one and you ultimately felt bad for both.
JK....Landon Donovan left off the plane. His impact maybe is questionable, but you can't help but think he would have given us more than say...Davis or Wondo depending on who the last man on the plane was (and always the chance that he would give something special.)

Not trying to say that managers or players listed are bad....it's just that people make mistakes. I'm sure we all have plenty to own.

For some reason, I can't think of a single thing from 2006...It's just a blur. A terrible, devastating blur.

In 2006 there was no back up for Pablo and Reyna seemed to be carrying some knock. I would also say underestimating the Czech Republic since they played us off the field.

I can name three

1. Bob Bradley's starting XI vs Ghana in the 2010 World Cup!

Gomez, buddle, feilhaber should've started (called it before the game)

2. Jurgen Klinsmann roster selection in the 2014 World Cup!

Donovan > Brad Davis
T. Boyd > Wondolousy

(Called it before the roster selection)

3. Jurgen Klinsmann lack of substitutions

There have also been awful decisions salvaged at the last minute by a timely epiphany. David Regis played left back for us in 2002 in the Netherlands friendly before the tournament. Finally Arena realized he was a liability and replaced him with Hejduk. I don't think we would have gotten to the quarters with Regis starting.

Jurgen Klinsmann lack of substitutions???

That pretty much discredits everything else you say.

Ghana:
Forced to sub Aron Johannson for Altidore because of injury.
Forced to sub Brooks for Besler because of injury. Brooks played Great and was the Hero
Subbed Zusi for a cramping Bedoya. Zusi Hero #2 (assist)

Portugal:
Again used all 3 subs. including subbing in Yedlin who came in and was EXCELLENT as a winger (again putting in a youngster that no one expected to play and had excellent results)

Germany:
Used 2 of 3 subs. I don't think anyone will have a problem with either of them (Bedoya for Davis and Yedlin for Zusi)

Belgium:
Again used all 3 subs. 1 of which was an excellent choice in Yedlin who was dominant in the game, Then you have Green in Extra time who scored on pretty much his first World Cup touch ever.

Seriously that is a criticism? He used 11 of 12 substitutes, and over half of them were excellent choices. NONE of them were "Bad", except maybe wondolowski against Belgium (but he didn't have another option with AJ and Altidore hurt).

I think everyone was hoping John O'Brien would be ready to go. Not same position or type of player, but the US would have adapted and played differently had O'Brien been ready and able. Maybe a mistake to think that 2006 O'Brien was 2002 O'Brien....

oh, what could have been. He was 28 the year of that WC. Had he been healthy, maybe he's your Left Back at the 2010 WC.

How bout our boy Jonathan Bornstein getting minutes in the world cup. He was awful.... Also I personally dont think leaving Donovan off the roster was a bad idea i would rather him brought a player like agudelo

Just a weird lineup in general looking back....Robbie F*ing Findley (early sub), Ricardo Clark (early sub), and then Bornstein. To be honest, Bornstein was the least curious move in my eyes.

Lineups:
USA: 1-Tim Howard; 6-Steve Cherundolo, 15-Jay DeMerit, 3-Carlos Bocanegra (capt.), 12-Jonathan Bornstein; 10-Landon Donovan, 4-Michael Bradley, 13 -Ricardo Clark (19-Maurice Edu, 31), 8-Clint Dempsey; 20-Robbie Findley (22-Benny Feilhaber, 46) 17-Jozy Altidore (9-Herculez Gomez, 91)
Subs not used: 18-Brad Guzan, 23-Marcus Hahnemann; 2-Jonathan Spector, 5-Oguchi Onyewu, 7-DaMarcus Beasley, 11-Stuart Holden, 14-Edson Buddle, 16-José Torres, 21-Clarence Goodson
Head Coach: Bob Bradley

Jurgen Klinsmann lack of substitutions???

I'm not talking about his selections for subs, I'm talking about the timing of his substitutions!

I was screaming for a sub right at the beginning of overtime right when Lukaku came in. Klinsmann waits too long to sub players. The most bizarre was when were losing to Costa Rica in WQC 3-1 and he didnt subbed in Johannsson in the 88 min instead of bring him on in the 75 min..

haha.

I get what you are saying, still don't agree.

I think JK's substitutions have been pretty spot on. Of course he isn't perfect, but overall it's a positive IMO.
