We touched on this in another discussion but I think this is worthy of its own thread. Below is everything we have to look forward to over the next cycle.

•17 October - 08 November - U17 World Cup in Chile

At this point I don't care about any qualification at all. We should expect usa to qualify at everything in soccer. Second I won't be satisfied until usa wins a FIFA tournament. Like I said before I would rather have 1 FIFA trophy over 50 gold cups. Like they say in America is a Copa De Tamborin, the gold cup. I'm done with the we played good but lost, or we played bad but won. I frankly don't care how usa plays as long as they win. For example Italy 2006 played horrible and won a world cup.

My Curiosity is what is our expectation for Copa America 2016. Yes get out the group is a must in every tournament now. But personally i think our expectations for this tournament specifically winning it and thats not a strech. Whether teams have A teams or not this is our cup in our country and we should make that all count.

We also need to somehow impress Conmebol in terms of soccer to get an invitation to every copa America like mexico. Reality is we need to be playing Copa America every four years and have our 2nd team focus on the Gold Cup that falls im the same year as Copa America even if dont win it. Gold cup just isnt enough to get our players ready for the world cup. Confed cup and Copa America is where we must prepare

Better yet Copa America should switch to even years and follow the 2016 model to create two year cycles like European nations. I guess they're already confirmed through 2023 but long-term that would benefit everybody.

Id like to see the US make the semi finals in 2016. I think thats reasonable given that we are at home.

Kekuta Manneh, Diego Fagundez, Darlington Nagbe, Gedion Zelalem, and Shawn Parker will all be possible dual-national players called up for the 2018 cycle. Kekuta is interested in both but leaning towards Gambia for now he almost got capped for them but was injured and wasnt called up. He might end up for the US if he feels he has a chance to make a world cup since Gambia has very little chance to make it. For now though I think he goes with Gambia but theres still time for him to change his mind. Fagundez will have his resolve tested if a european club between now and 2016 offers a transfer fee and a good contract since New England is one of the cheapest teams in the league. Nagbe wants to play for the US and will likely stay in the US so he will be called up by 2016. Gedion Zelalem will be the most coveted and I think its truly a 50-50 call on where he goes. Parker will commit to the US. I think the US has 2 very likely dual nationals Nagbe, and Parker. Fagundez and Zelalem could go either way. Manneh is leaning toward Gambia

It's pointless to set expectations now. There's way too many variables. For instance if FIFA plays hardball and euro guys aren't allowed to go we will get spanked. Also who knows if any onagers will be injured or severly out of form. Look who USA played in the forts qualifying round. That was two years ago. Look how much has changed. It's ok to get excited but to lay expectations down is just silly

Thats a good opponent. They usually play teams tough (made it to the playoff rounds for recent WCQ and mad emost recent Euros). They are kind of that 2nd tier of euro clubs along teams like Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Sweden, Russia. Good quality opponent, but should be beatable

I still wonder if the Hex will survive given the reduction in the number of available match dates from 2013. February-October 2017 I count windows for only 8 matches (February window is gone), unless they get creative or use the November window too. Which could make the fixture list even more Concacaf heavy than it used to be. Possible it remains the same, but I am kind of hoping not. We'd need another confederation to also cut back on their qualifier matches (such as Conmebol).

CONCACAF wanted to get rid of the hex this past cycle. THe main opposition is that it would make USA and Mexico almost never play competitive matches vs each other (only in potential gold cup knockout rounds).
They want to mirror AFC where the final round is 2 groups of 4 teams or so. Makes the last round only 6 matches instead of 10. Group winners qualify. 2 runner ups have home and home for auto spot, loser goes to inter-confed playoff game (unless CONCACAF gets an unlikely extra slot.

Theyd pretty much make it so each group would have either US or Mexico and either Costa Rica or Honduras. Then teams like Panama, Jamaica, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, T&T, Cuba would fill out the groups. Only real unknown would be if the'd have two best 3rd place teams from previous round also make it or add/subtract minnow knockout rounds to get the numbers even.

Just so no one thinks I'm talking out of my ass I was able to find the article from the time they were discussing it.
