HB one thing. What does it show about how smart, and how fast Julian Green learns. He comes in against turkey and has a chance to volley tries to take it down. SO, he learns and then BAMNNNNN GOALLL. Gave us our 15 mins of hope. U gotta love it. Super Star in the making. What do u guys think transfer or try to break into the bayern teaM????

so obviously no one can predict what we have for players next world cup... obviously no one knew about green, yedlin, brooks 4 years ago... sooo im just gonna say who i think from this 23 will be on the roster. Guzan (starter), Johnson, Brooks, Besler, Yedlin, Bradley, Green, Altidore. Thats 8 returning players with yedlin and green being wingers in my mind. Alitdore will be back. Whether he scores in the MLS or Europe I feel he will be back. I player that will be sick up top in 2018 i think is agudelo. If i could pick a lineup now based on what we have in four years it would look something like this.
Guzan
Fabian Besler Brooks ?
yedlin bradley ? Green
?
?

I think that we will play 2 up top and one under the other. Maybe Boyd and Agudelo. But i say hopefully a young 20 year old comes out of the usa youth system. And lets hope Green is a world class star, and at the age of 23 he will take the world by storm

Barring injury Omar will still be in the mix. He might not be a starter but I'd be shocked if he wasn't in the player pool. He's only 25 and will be 29 in 2018.

Your point on predictions is spot on though.

After 2010 I posted on Facebook a list of players that should make us excited for the 2014 World Cup. I checked my archives to see if it was still there but it's apparently the only post Facebook has ever lost.

I can assure you that Beckerman, Fabian, Besler and Zusi were absolutely not on my list but I have vague recollection of listing Gale Agbossoumonde. What an absolutely stupid player to get excited about in retrospect.

nagbe could be the true attacking midfielder we need. I dont watch him play much since i live on the east coast but when i have it seems that he is something special... him sitting in that attacking midfield could be great

Who are the older holdovers from this team that will be on next summers Gold Cup team?

Here is my list:

Dempsey(maybe not as a starter)
Jones( maybe not as a starter)
Bradley
Howard
Beasley( Doesn't seem to be slowing down)
Cameron
Altidore
Besler
Gonzo
Guzan
Fabian

Players that should be fazed out immediately:

Bedoya
Zusi
B-man
Wondo
Davis

Young players that will have an opportunity to make the team:

Gyau
Holmes
Zardes
Stanko
O'Neill
Powers
Arriola(if Klinsmann starts selecting him for the USMNT instead of being selected for the U-20 team)
Gil
Zelalem(If he does indeed get his citizenship)
Trapp
Lletget
Garza
Pelosi
Mario Rodriguez
Kitchen
Klute
Rubio Rubin( same as Arriola)

Players that can play themselves back into the USMNT picture for the Gold Cup:

Williams
Holden
Adu
Shea
Torres
Castillo
Corona

Young/youngish players I fully expect to see on the Gold Cup roster:

ArJo
Agudelo
Mix

You have pretty much everyone. I would like to add a couple of possible players to the mix. Will Packwood will get a full season starting at cb for birmingham city and I think he could be a possible option at centerback. Tim Ream at leftback is a possibility he played a very good season for bolton last year. Eric Lichaj if he stays healthy is another possible option. Josh Gatt if he can finally get healthy although his injury history is very worrisome for his chances. Bobby Wood could always get a look if he can get more time with his club. Shawn Parker is being recruited by the federation and could play a role next season. Very extensive list I think you have covered all the bases well done.

Who's to say Howard retires from international duty? He's still world class and had the game of his life.

I'd be totally fine with Timmy chugging along into the Gold Cup and Copa America Centenario.

Yes I believe there will be a bit of a youth movement. I think this taught Klinsmann a lesson that Bedoya and Zusi just aren't up to snuff on the biggest stage.

That is the only criticism I have about Klinsmann in this WC. Sticking with Bedoya and Zusi far to long. Green, Diskerud, and even playing Chandler should have happened.
To be fair 2Tone, I truly believe Jurgen thought of this WC as the end of the era of the players and schemes and everything pre JK. From Davis to Beasley to Wondo, Beckerman, Jones, the list goes on. We went with the best we have now. But, as Jzaval is thinking, in this fall's friendies, we dont need our immediate "best 11", but moreso the younger players who fit what JK actually wants.

I agree completely. Klinsy had to deal with lots of dead weight. Landon Donovan being the brute of that dead weight. when you are trying to flip a program into a new direction its hard to get the support or even the effort from well seasoned meat. Its okay now because you thought Donovan being left off was big, I bet Klinsy just cleans house now.

Its going to be fun. Our arrow is pointed nowhere but up. Its about to be where you have to be a stud or we can change you out. I must say I got the chance to see Trapp now a couple times in person, I love that kid. Waiting to see Portland and Nagbe come to Chicago, on tv he looks like Yaya Toure. And of course, my overseas tv favorite who hasnt even put on a USMNT shirt, Duane Holmes. And you guys know way more players than I do. Imagine JK's "Big Board"....

You can't say that yet. These kids are just prospects. Only Nagbe is essentially proven (of the players who will come in in next 1-2 years)

I can say I like Trapp and Holmes and Nagbe and that 2Tone et al know way more prospects than I do, let alone the coaching staff tree of the USSF (Williams up thru Klinsmann).

You made this argument against Green, Yedlin, and Brooks. Yet they all played and played well in the WC. Sometimes playing unproven talent needs to happen.

Klinsmann won't clean house. I mean realistically who are the "hold-overs" from Bradley's time?

Howard, Bradley, Beasley, Altidore, and Dempsey...Dempsey, Beasley and Howard are probably done, but that has nothing to do with JK cleaning house, they are just old and won't likely be here for the 2018 WC.

No way he gets rid of Bradley or Altidore. Both are centerpieces for the 2018 WC cycle. He'll want a Johannson or another like striker to step up to pair with him. He'll want Bradley to be the DM in that team.

Most of the others Jones, Zusi, Bedoya, Cameron, Gonzalez, Besler, Johnson, Beckerman were either very little used by Bradley and molded/found by Klinsmann or completely found by Klinsmann.

Some of those will be phased out as younger/better players step up. But that is just the natural cycle of things.

If I had to guess right now I would say that Guzan, Altidore, Bradley, Gonzalez, Green, Johannson, Brooks, Johnson, Chandler, Yedlin, and Diskerud have a very good chance of being at the 2018 WC. Perhaps Bedoya and Besler.

Jones, Dempsey, Howard, Rimando, Beasley, Zusi, Cameron, Beckerman, Wondo, and Davis will either be past their prime and not as good or just plain too old/retired.

Based on what I have seen I would say that it is very likely that Guzan, Yedlin, Brooks, Green, Bradley, Altidore and Johannson will be 7 of the starting XI in 2018. I know a LOT can happen between now and then. Questions are is Yedlin at RW or RB. Who steps up and pairs with Bradley (Diskerud?)? If Yedlin is RB who is the RW? Who is paired with Brooks and who is the LB?

I think Boyd or someone else is going to start ahead of Jozy next world cup. In my honest opinion I think Jozy's career is about done. And most would disagree with me. He might go somewhere and have an ok season but he has already peaked. I hope he proves me wrong. We have to much talent coming up for us to rely on a bench player.
