I'm no doctor, but *just barely participating in practice* usually doesn't mean *can go 90 a couple of days later*.

Reflecting on the Germany - Algeria match I think a clear lesson is that better teams are vulnerable at some point, and to have a chance you must exploit, or at least try to, that weakness. Algeria keep putting balls in behind the German defense and they looked shaky on a number of occasions. Algeria certainly looked much more a threat to Germany than the US did, granted the conditions and circumstances were different.

Point being, Belgium has some of the same questions marks at the back and the US really needs to ask questions of them. The US can't just try to play to their strength, but must attack this Belgium team. I think there are goals there, but we need to come out with a little more energy than the past matches an take the match to Belgium. Dempsey scored that quick goal against Ghana, but really the first three matches the US hasn't come out like that. It would be nice to see that switch up in the game plan.

I wouldn't mind Jozy starting or not play at all. Why use him as a sub? So if he comes on at the 65th min and subs out in the 70th then we wasted 2 subs. At least if he starts and can't go then we still have the whole game and 2 subs left (see: Diego Costa UCL Final).
If you don't love it, leave it, USA #1

According to Klinsmann:

"We don't know how much [he can play] ... but he's available. It's now difficult to say how many minutes."

I wish he would have done something cheeky like leaked to the media that Jozy would start and then started a different formation.

We wouldn't have wasted 2 subs, we would have wasted 1. We would have used 2.

I would be very surprised if Jozy plays tomorrow personally. At CMF maybe you can get by with a hamstring at 90%, but up top you are just asking for a reaggravation.

Regarding Julian as was discussed earlier, I actually would not be shocked to see him get some run in this game. Unlike most opponents, Belgium may be more susceptible to the American threat on the wings than on set pieces, giving Julian a potential edge over Evans. Still would expect to see Yedlin first though.

Problem is what if he puts in Jozy as a last sub in the 75 min, and he re injures or aggravates his hamstring by the 85 min or so and we have to play with 10 players and even worse if we go into Extra time, it would be an absolute disaster. Not sure if he plays but if were losing what the heck put him in or at least Johansson or green.

I'm excited and nervous as hell. Quarterfinals is there for the taking and I like our chances. We beat Belgium and the winner of Switzerland and Argentina should be frightened. No one wants to play the US.

I think diskerud should be a definite of the bench US needs to possess the ball a lot better then they have. I could see green if we are up 1-0 and we need speed to dribble the ball around and force them to chase us late in the game. I dont understand why Johansson hasnt played since that first game he didnt do half bad the passes to him were terrible in the ghana game. I think klinsmann is more enamored with bringing in wondo then johansson at this point.

Germany struggled, Netherlands struggled, Brazil struggled, France struggled. Some times in knockout rounds the favorites get caught up in the moment and if they don't score an early goal they panic. Hopefully we can be the one to break through where the other underdogs fell.

Side note ESPN analytics show USA and Belgium practically equal using metrics via the group stages to predict goals scored/against going forward and gave USA the best chance of the 8 runner ups to advance

I would say today is top 3 game for USA soccer history. Maybe only surpassed by the Quarterfinal against Germany.
