So far Concacaf is 3-1-1 at the World Cup, not too shabby.

There are at least 2 goals by current MLS players, Dempsey and Cahill. Does anyone know of any other current or former MLS players doing well this Cup?

It would be fun to see stats on how many players are from each league and how many goals scored by those players.

Julio Cesar has been okay. Not Ochoa-level, but he made some decent stops yesterday.

As stated earlier Cesar has led Brazil to 1st in the group including 1 shutout and hasnt given up a goal to an opposing player (only goal against him was an own goal).

Gonzalez went the full 90' in defence in CR's upset over Uruguay.

The Hondurans weren't anything special but after Palacios got himself ejected its hard to judge them.

So far a decent showing. If CR wins again they could advance and let Gonzalez get some mentions. The Hondurans, specifically Bengsten have a chance to show something still

Yeah I was hoping for better from Honduras, keeping my fingers crossed. I am pretty stoked for the Costa Rica game. I hope they can draw in.

Make that 3 goals for MLS. Also if Dafoe were in for England I bet he would not have missed the sitter Rooney did.

Looks like others are taking notice as well...

Can't read the full article without a subscription but it's nice to know that CONCACAF is getting some recognition by international media.

I also read and article about how Concacaf has been the third best region since 1998. I am still hoping to get 3 teams in the round of 16

What we need to happen is to get to a point where there's always a CONCACAF team in the quarters, if not the semis.
Quaterfinalist by region (Bold means region had at least 1 Semi finalist):
2010- 4 SA, 3 UEFA, 1 CAF
2006- 2 SA, 6 UEFA
2002- 1 SA, 4 UEFA, 1CAF, 1 AFC, 1 NA
1998- 2 SA, 6 UEFA
1994- 1 SA, 7 UEFA

The only year South America didnt have at least one semi finalist was 2006 in germany at the peak of European football powers (Italy, France, Germany, England, Spain, Portugal, netherlands were all stacked)

Africa has started to break through although this year doesnt look like they'll be successful. We need to start getting 1 team to a quarterfinal regularly. Then CONCACAF will gain respect.

Gonzalez is having a fantastic 1st half. He's been in Balotelli's pocket all half. Playing a clean game and holding his ground.

Well deserved win by Costa Rica. They're the first CONCACAF team to make it out of the group stage, hopefully the US and Mexico join them in the next round.

Im not as sold on Honduras as I am on the other three CONCACAF teams. That said, I am happy to eat crow.

Not only is it great for Costa Rica but they'll definitely have a decent chance to make the quarters. They'll face either Colombia if they fall to 2nd or get one of the dissapointing Ivory Coast/Greece/Japan. Either way they'll have avoided all the top dogs. CONCACAF and MLS are showing great and if they keep it up I think there will be some decent transfers next month
