I love how you say Wondo would "disappear" into the game when he has never done that in a USMNT shirt really, especially not as a a starter.

But I'm liking that 4-2-3-1 that Dunlopp just put up.

There may also be an idea of playing Brad Davis as the wide left man in midfield and loading up defensively?

Sure he has. 2013 Gold Cup. After Belize and Cuba, he was largely ineffective. Eddie Johnson took his spot because against the decent CONCACAF teams, Wondo disappeared into the game. Wondo's track record in tournament play isn't good.

I don't mind him leaving EJ at home as a replacement for Jozy. Boyd on the other hand.....

Yes, Boyd should of been brought in over Wondo. Dude was firing on all cylinders too.

Exactly. And I see him as more of a like for like than EJ would be with Jozy

If Lalas thinks EJ should be here and has a problem with JK snubbing him...Then I am sure it was the right decision by JK.

Lalas is a JK contrarian and hater and just an idiot. So it is generally a good idea when it comes to JK's decisions, etc to go against whatever Lalas thinks.

As I said before, the perfect roster would've been:

Boyd> Wondo
Donovan > Davis

but Ill be the first to eat crow if one of these players has a positive impact

I have a feeling we will see one or both Vs Portugal. I think Wondo starts and Davis comes on as a sub. I guess we will see what happens.

Thats good. Ronaldo is as necessary to POR as Jozy is to us. If you think it through, you will see both team's gameplans revolve around them being there and don't work as well when they are not there.

Ronaldo iced his knees pretty much every practice since the UCL final. He'll be there and likely play 90', Not going to be world player of the year Ronaldo but still dangerous as hell.

Not saying he won't but I have also seen some reports that say if he doesn't rest the injury could end up being career threatening. I know this could all be speculation though. Just throwing out what I heard.

Our attack was pretty impotent in the 2nd half with no Jozy and a poor Bradley. Both are needed for our attack to work...we shall see on sunday

4-3-2-1

.......Wondo.......

.Deuce......MB......
...Fab................JJ
......Beckerman......

Beas...Besler...Cam...Chandler

Flop JJ off center right to deal with Ronaldo.

If Besler is truly healthy and JK has enough confidence in a Besler/Brooks combo we could kick Cameron to RB...might be a stretch, Cameron has been solid at CB.

RB stays home...Fab and Beas deal with Nani... Hopefully Fab can drag Nani deep. I like Fab attacking on the opposite side of Ronaldo.

I could also roll with the same players lined up in a 4-2-3-1 with MB and Beckerman protecting the back line and Fab and JJ on the flanks.

If Portugal stays true to form as a defend and counter team we should have more space to possess the ball in midfield. If that is the case, then I think Wondo would be better on the point...not really his bag but he'd give us a little more grit there...hopefully we possess the ball further up field, playing balls to him and Deuce near the box instead of trying to play over the top from a deeper position...that wouldn't work with him.

Hopefully nobody goes down early, we're going to need all three subs later in the grueling conditions.

I think the grueling conditions would favor usa, and affect CR7, since he would be doing a lot of running trying to score out of desperation. And with his knee problems it would only be a matter of time. I also would not mind a player of usa fouling him early to bang him up but not injure him, you know just a good hard foul even if it means getting a yellow, but he would be a bit hurt troughout the game and less effective.
