He's a good player. We will just have to wait and see how his season continues at DM before jumping to any conclusions. Right now I still think he is a utility player for the USMNT, but that could change.

if cameron earns a full time gig as CM in EPL he deserves every opportunity to man that spot for US. it looks like he may be winning that spot next to nzonzi for stoke

the idea that he cant get better at 29 is absurd. it doesnt matter if you are 9, 19 or 29 - if you have an opportunity to play a position regularly at higher level of competition then you have previously you will get better. if he keeps the job he is getting better

for gold cup cameron/bradley becomes an option - allowing you to move forward with the jones at CB experiment

for me cameron at CM was simply contingent on him actually playing CM regularly. after today looks like that could happen

I am still holding onto Danny Williams-Bradley being the pairing in Russia 2018 and Copa America 2016. I don't have faith in Cameron.

We have to win the 2015 Gold Cup.

So.. the only questions are, is Cameron better than Beckerman? Or are we better off with going wtih teh lineup JK was trying to go with right after the wc.

2 Base midfielders who don't play a dedicated defensive position, allowing for Jones and Bradley to occupy the same world. (Mix and Corona started games together in the base 2. That was really interesting.)

Cameron and Nguyen are players I'm hot on at the moment because they're USA citizens and they are playing better than any midfielder not named Jermaine Jones. I want to see Trapp, but I'm not sure JK is ready to move onto that stage yet. Who knows, maybe that is what 2016 Copa will be about. Erasing Cameron and slotting Trapp in his place.

I honestly don't' get it, what about him do people not like. He's got more touch than alot of our midfielders, and I'd argue he is WAAAAy more athletic than everyone in MF other than Jones. The guy loves to play the ball. He is defensive minded, but that's an asset, another one of his is that he controls the ball well and keeps possession. I don't know if you guys seen, we still suck at that.

Would be really tough to not have Jones as a starting midfielder for the Gold Cup. . .

Jurgen seems to really want Jones to be around in 2018/16, thus emphasizing learning CB now.

@Rey
Setting aside what JK will actually do, I don't see why we should aim for playing JJones or Beckerman in 2018, as if they won't be too old.
If we need them as a placeholder for a given match, sure.

If I understand correctly, the only over-the-hill field players who can have a meaningful impact on WC matches are either total wizards with the ball or centerbacks who can draw on their experience. JJones is amamzing, but I can't stand giving him a majority of minutes at CB now under the assumption that he can play CB at 35 in Russia. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around: We don't feature him there unless it looks like we have to, round about 2017 or so?

Who knows, a Jermaine Jones might be good at CB with Brooks. I personally think it will be New Player + Brooks in Russia.

final cameron update for 2014:

irish international glenn whelan has returned from injury to resume his spot as a 1st choice CM for stoke - pushing cameron back to the back for last couple of games

seems that cameron is the #1 back-up CM for stoke, which for me is not enough at this point to put him ahead of guys like morales and williams, who play CM every week and have a much brighter long-term future for USMNT

at this rate it is very likely that morales will be a bundesliga starter by the summer - at 25 y/o... time to get on board

you cant assume morales will be a bundesliga starter... another thing is you are comparing 1st division to 2nd division players which doesnt make sense either.

Who ever plays best for national team should be there and right now Cameron is above the pecking order because of injury (Williams) or still new in NATs (Morales)
Beckerman can still do the job so we can complete the task of winning 2015 gold cup but still can groom williams and morales for more options

why should we not assume that ingolsadt will be promoted and that morales will keep his spot?

im comparing CMs to a utility player. i prefer CMs. what does not make sense to you?

williams has been healthy, including 90 mins today

if i am creating a CM "pecking order" today with those 4 players, it would be:
1) morales
2) williams
3) cameron
4) beckerman

i would suggest that people who would put cameron and beckerman at the top are failing to understand the bigger picture

Not following. Are you saying that Cameron is better today but Morales will probably be better in 6 months so let's jump on the Morales wagon now? Why not just wait until/unless Morales is in fact better?

i have defended Morales because he still is new. But he isnt ready to contribute imo. You know what the big picture is atm? For us to win Gold Cup so we can be in Confed cup 2017. There is so much things that will change from now till 2018 Russia, new players injuries etc which is what this friendly are to continue to grow this players and possibly get more options who are ready like Rubin.

When you are injured for a long time a.k.a william you go down the pecking order until you show better on the field for national team. Not words, opinions or just assumptions.
Can William be better than Cameron yea of course but we have to see it, morales in the other case still needs more friendly and experience some people here dont even rate him.

Really wow i remember many here on YA were on his sack as the next and best DM for USA and a Chump comes in and takes his spot. Obviously the coach saw he wasn't good enough at CM for freaking stoke city of the great EPL. (hahaha) And to be honest glenn whelan ohh yes the great whelan should be nominated for EPL best 11 at seasons end. And now all of a sudden some are predicting Camerona s a CB now for the Gold Cup. YALL See how peoples mind change very quick ??? Is Typical american soccer fans like i said before. +1 for rainorshine.
