Why can't he get a WP in England?

For years they've been notoriously hard to obtain for non-EU passport holders because a player has to have appeared in a significant percentage of his countries national team matches, the country has to be ranked in the top 70ish of the FIFA rankings (not that that point is an issue with COB), or as an exception if a player is deemed to be an exceptional talent they will waive the requirement. If a player doesn't meet that criteria they'll appeal and a panel will determine whether or not to grant it.

Recently, the appeals committee has appeared to be trending toward leniency for players though. Robbie Rogers wasn't expected to receive a permit, and Robbie Finley was also a toss up. I think it does help if you've suited up for the team in a few matches near the time of your appeal, as the Robbies had.

It's been getting easier but even guys like Ream, Findley, Rogers and Cameron had USMNT experience.

O'Brien has never suited up for the USMNT or any youth national team. It's so much of a stretch, I' doubt it's even possible.

Huh. Interesting. All the more reason in my opinion to cap him.

Do you think there is a chance he will be involved with the January camp or will he be looking for a new team?

Its likely he'll be already signed or close to it by that time. Doubt he will be brought in because he'll want to get acclimated to his new team, but I'd be absolutely thrilled if he was. Suppose it depends on who it is too - if its Copenhagen than I'd say that increases his chances of being at Jan camp. If its Belgium or Holland than prob not.

This is more or less it.

If he stays in Denmark or comes to MLS, he'll go to January camp if invited (and it would be very disappointing if he wasn't)

If he goes to a European league that is active in January, he'll stay with his new club.

Okay seriously, why is this guy in anyones discussions to be called up. He plays attacking mid for Nordjallesand (same club as Parkhurst, who was getting called up when he was playing there). Why isnt this guy given a chance in a position we lack in???????????????????????

He's not an attacking mid. He's a deep lying playmaker. He can press forward in a box-to-box role but he's not an attacking mid.

He's a good player.

Nordsjaelland defeated Aarhurs 4-2 to go back into 2nd place in the Danish Superliga and they still hold a game in hand.

Conor O'Brien went a full 90 in central midfield and was involved in the buld-up to the first two goals.

@Bshredder - obviously I think we should see him in the GC, do think it will happen? Are the Scandinavian leagues playing during the summer?

Good player. Definitely deserves a call-up sometime this year.

Honestly I'd like to see him even before the GC like in some friendlies. Who doesn't want a Holden-esque player on the usmnt(could even see both of them this year)?? Could provide very much needed help creatively.

O'Brien was very sharp (again) today for Nordsjaelland going a full 90 in a 3-1 win over Midtjylland.

Long Island representing.

I suppose I should be more supoprtive of COB, being from LI and all. But honestly, havent seen him play. Sounds like a solid player that doesnt offer much more than what we have. At the very least, though, I would take him over Edu. Then again, thats a long list of itself.
