Watching three WCs with Donovan, and I don't remember one game where a team noticeably made tactical changes to cut Donovan out the game. The only thing teams had to do to beat the US was cut out the counter and be strong on set pieces....I'm not disregarding Donovan at all despite his club situation. He's the best to put on the red, white, and blue and in his prime was the closest thing to world class we've had.

And yet, Donovan scored on a break from midfield against Slovenia and orchestrated and finished the counter of all counters against Algeria...

World Class? Still an argument of the definition and fair on both side IMO, but I think you are reaching a bit to assume that teams did not plan to limit Donovan just because you didn't notice it. Teams that knew they had to play the US in the group stage months in advance ignoring a guy closing in on 150 caps and entering his 3rd WC... a guy that has been the key player for the US for years? Not buying that... At this level, everyone plan for every opponent and tries to limit their most dangerous players. Even if teams were just generally trying to limit the counter attack, who is the most dangerous player in open space for the US? LD, without question.

The throw and the goal and the madness almost causes you to forget about the save he made and held onto to even be able to make the throw. I hope we can have another magic moment like that this summer!

Howard seems to play to his competition... which bodes well this cup. If we beat Ghana, I see him as the reason we can beat Portugal or Germany. It is up to the others to finish, but he will give us that chance.

Gameplans tend not to work out for one side. Also, didn't mean they don't have Donovan in mind but it's clearly not as obvious as it when it comes to top players. Meaning, it's clear that teams tend to overload one side and/or have more defensive-minded players when it comes to Ronaldo, Messi, etc.....not so much against Donovan and co, sure the manager probably says you need to be aware of him on the counter, but that's most likely as far as it goes. But this is getting off course.....my statement still stands outside of about half of the USMNT supporters. Not trying to diminish Donovan at all or any of the US players as I'm a big fan...but I'm not going to overrate them.

one thing about howard that worries me is his positioning... howard can make some amazing saves and dont get me wrong im a huge everton fan and howard fan. Was pissed this they lost this morning, espically the way they lost. BUT if u look at that ghana game last year howard could have had both goals... playing up to his competition... idk i think howard is just a really good goalkeeper, but idk if I would say he plays up to his competition, I think he i just a lot better than some give him credit for

Saw the highlights of the Soton-Everton game.

Those were spectacular own goals by Alcaraz and Coleman.

Don't know how credible this site is but apparently Spurs want Timmy. http://www.caughtoffside.com/2014/07/05/exclu...

Think it is a lateral move. I know Spurs has deeper pockets but Martinez has good things going at Goodison Park continuing what Moyes left.

As an Arsenal guy, I hope not. For his career, I hope not. Maybe if he were younger but Spurs are known for lofty expectations on for their team that they are never capable of reaching and sometimes the wrong players become scapegoats. I could see them blaming Timmy for not stopping every shot.

Howard would never leave Everton for Spurs. Unless Barca comes calling, I dont see him going anywhere.
