Today Earth shattering news came out that the US Naval laboratories have successfully converted saltwater into a usable fuel source.

Soon Naval ships will not have to depend on any oil to run there ships.

The ramifications of this go far beyond just Naval ships.

Science is amazing!

First you could remove "soon" from discussion.

If this IS possible, great but I'm skeptical especially since politics have been put right in the forefront with "Green" energy proponents espousing its merits very quickly!!! Don't know why people interject political views into everything! Case in point, this thread is labeled "POLITICS" and current events. Why not just current events!!??

Okay mini rant over!

Calm down boyo. Navy man here. And yes this has happened. Why would I remove soon? Soon doesn't imply tomorrow. My guess with in the next 10 years most naval ships will have the capability of using this fuel source.

Maybe this thread should be labeled politics or current events. My guess that the creator didn't want to create one more thread dedicated to just politics.

Ignoring the snarky childish comments this has the potential to make life altering changes. Something like two thirds of the earth is water. It really is an unlimited supply. No more oil, no more gas, no more coal. Supply and demand can cause prices to start to drop on everything

This is incredible. Like, potentially "discovery of electricity" incredible. You are talking about a potential to remove reliance on petroleum in some or possibly all aspects of life. Anyone that downplays the significance of such an advance is a damn fool. If this pans out and comes to fruition ever, imagine the impact it would have on the Middle East, with the world no longer dependant on the vast supply of petroleum.. Thanks for sharing this, I will definitely be researching this further

No problem. I thought people should know what is happening in the world besides football.

This is tantamount to creating the Atom bomb. Could have a huge impact on future society's.

This can have a huge impact scientifically and economically. If my car can use salt water as fuel.... man I'd be saving tons of money. Then again, a boy can dream.

It's incredible that a casual note of a scientific finding devolved into catty fighting.

With oil predicted to run out by 2040 this is huge. Without oil we can't feed even 1/2 our current population. I am sure the oil companies already have plans for a new power source but they will milk oil for every cent before they unveil it.
