Teams have toa release players for both U20 world cup and gold cup. I'd agree with above to definitely send him to u20s and if we flame out early bring him to gold cup but if we make a nice run give him the summer off. Or if gold cup allows the post group stage changes again maybe do that and give him group stages off but bring him in as a sub option for knockout rounds

That's a good point. I forgot about the ability to swap out players after the group stage in the Gold Cup. We did that last year with Gonzo, Besler, EJ and Gordon coming in for the knockout round. Good memory.

While we were away the past few days, it's been reported that Rubin has a stress fracture in his foot and will need surgery.

Have we forgotten about this guy? I know he is hurt but when he gets back into form he should be given as much chance as Wood and Morris. He was arguably our most exciting young prospect and did well in his friendly chances. He has to work on his finishing but so does Zardes and he is a starter for our national team.

I doubt he will be viewed the same if a more established player is out due to injury. I think he needs to prove himself, it is not as if he had large amounts of playing time or results when he got on the field. He should be at the u-23 level.

The fact remains that Rubin hasn't found an established position with Utrecht. And he was seeing little to zero minutes with the first team prior to his injury.

Talented attacker just needs to find his position and get back healthy. More of a U23 player for now.

I think because he cannot finish like a striker and was tried as a CAM and that is not his position either. I see him as a forward but he has to work on his finishing. That is the only reason he is still a fringe player, favoring more toward being a U-23. If he finishes his chances better he is in the mix with Wood, Morris and the likes.

For me Rubin has always been an inverted Left winger/Lam. He loves to cut in on his right foot. Not a natural goal scorer, but he can score goals. He is a Clint Dempsey type of player with a bit more pace.

If he is healthy by March I would love to see him with the U23's as a LW.

--------Morris-----Gooch--------
Rubin----------Gil--------Keisewetter
-----------Polster------------
Pelosi------Brooks----Miazga----Yedlin
-------------Horvath---------

That is my ideal starting 11 in March against Colombia.

Lynden Gooch can also drop underneath Morris and create.

As a striker, though? I'm not sure, since Jurgen will already be calling in Clint, Bobby and (if healthy) Jozy.

There are usually a minimum of 4 strikers brought into any camp. Right now there are only 3 strikers in the pool that, when healthy are givens....Dempsey, Wood, & Jozy. The 4th spot is completely up for grabs right now. Morris & Rubin are the two most likely candidates going forward right now after yet another underwhelming performance from Wondo (who is hopefully done with the national team).
Other players who can play forward (Zardes & Pulisic) can also play in the midfield so I don't see them in direct competition for a roster spot....even if they are in competition for playing time.

The young soccer careers of Rubio Rubin and Brady Scott are headed in completely opposite directions.
