If you listen really closely at the end of that, right after ""a lot of grind", you can hear Jurgen say "a lot of over-training, a lot of weird decisions".

I'm conflicted, because I really love how the fans get behind it and you can feel their emotion and passion, as well as the fact that people who weren't really following the WC had heard it or heard about it. But that's about the only good thing about it, it's repetitive in an annoying way, it's not clever or well written or culturally significant to make up for any faults, and it doesn't lend itself to being on "repeat" like most of the really famous chants. When what sounds like all of Southampton is singing "Oh when the Saints", or all of Anfield is united in "You'll Never Walk Alone", that's an atmosphere that we can't match here in the states aside from a select few games/teams, mostly in college football with the longest standing and storied traditions in American sports.

For club and country, I think we should start harnessing the power of crowd sourcing and social media. Let the supporter's groups for the teams do the voting on which song(s) win, but let everyone submit. Let each of the AO branches come up with a regional USA chant, and they all vote on the new "I believe" that'll be done at every match.

Probably easier said than done, but if the USA wants to get a lot of interest in the GC they might think about doing this in the late winter/early spring.

I see nothing wrong with the I believe chant. It is distinctly American and has cultural and sporting significance. Came to fruition in the early 90's at college football games.

It's like people complaining about the chant: USA, USA, USA. Every other country chants their country name as well.

I'll give you that point, it's way better than just "USA" again and again, but it's not unique to US Soccer therefore I don't see it as being significant culturally in terms of the sport itself. In terms of American sporting culture overall though, I agree that it has it's significance, but my main point is that IMO US Soccer fans/AO/Sam's Army can do better than ripping off the Navy's football chant.

I like the passion that everyone brings to the chant, but I'm not crazy about it. It always sounds like we're trying to convince ourselves that it will come true...wishing it to come true by repeating it a million times...but that's just me.

The problem is we should have 10-15 good chants, instead of I Believe and USA.

I'm mean, two freaking chants is lame. You could probably have a punk/Alt battle of the bands to come up with a great original chant...with a case of beer as the prize...and you'd probably come up with some stellar stuff overnight.

Or kick it up a notch...isn't Grohl a soccer fan...bring in the some heavy musicians that are fans and have them work with AO and Sam's Army...do it for the cause. Bring some wit and creativity to it.

I thought the US game in Seattle had one of the best atmosphere, I remember the chant "United..... United States..."
