Yeldell would be 36 in 2018...I mean I know he is a keeper but he definitely will not be there

So if Tim Howard (currently 35) were a year older, would he have no shot as well?

I'm not defending Yeldell because I really don't know a whole lot about him, but I doubt his age would be the reason for not making the next cycle. IMO, when it comes to keepers, under 40 is good by me

35 is actually fine for a goalkeeper. Most goalies don't hit their prime until they are about at least 30. However age aside, Yeldell is irrelevant.

Brad Guzan will be the starting goalkeeper for the USMNT in 2018, and possibly 2022. Period. No debate. Anyone else would be nothing more than his backup.

And honestly, if Timmy didn't have the history with the national team like he does, and if he wasn't the starter for the past 2 WC cycles, Guzan may actually be the current USMNT starting goalkeeper...

I totally agree. The comment wasn't directed at you, more at the person who made the initial comment about age.

My comment was less about Yeldell being too old to play, but more about his age at this point and how that translates to the 2018 world cup. If you look at our goalkeeping stable right now, its 1. Howard 2. Guzan 3. Rimando and then 4. Sean John and Hamid. Are Sean John and Hamid really our 4th best keepers? Probably not but you have them there because they are young. So when 2018 rolls around Guzan will be the #1 so there is no point in having a 36 year old keeper with the same experience as guys that are in their mid 20's who can still learn some stuff.
