I think Stoke realizes they need to change tactics to become successful in the PL. To me, it seems like thats why Shea was brought in. Like 2Tone said, once they got in trouble with relegation, any tactical changes they had planned this spring were tossed to the side. Its very possible Stoke bring in some other attack minded midlfielders and outside backs, to go along with Shea.

I like what Shea did. Its nice to see US players thinking and acting for themselves, without concern for the national team. Some guys are going to fail(EJ, Findley, Rogers, etc..), but some will succeed(Dempsey, Altidore, Bradley). This is whats going to make our national team better.

I remember Pulis saying they had bought Shea with next season in mind when asked about whether or not Shea was at full fitness after the sale went through. Also, I do believe Shea stated he was not at 100% prior to the Costa Rica game. IMO Shea is probably dealing with the same lingering effects on the foot as Omar Salgado. The interview MLS soccer talk had with him during the recent U20 camp revealed Salgado is FULLY healed from the foot injury. However, he is having unexplained pain and soreness in the foot. Foot injuries are a tricky thing, IMO Shea and USMNT need to take a long term outlook on his. Better to get eased back into training and games, than come rushing back and setting yourself up for long term health concerns.
As far as the move to Stoke goes...well, I would have liked to have seen him in the Eredivisie learning his trade first.

Looks like teams from Germany and Holland are lining up for Shea.

Stoke was never a good fit for him. I am glad he is getting out of that shite club. Hopefully Cameron will follow suit.

Yeah he impressed in Germany, shouldn't find it hard to find another club. Doubt he'll come back to MLS tho..

Brek Shea not even the 18 for Birmingham City today. I don't think he was in their last game either. Safe to say his career is on the decline. Should be no where near the USMNT right now.

I have to say that I have been wrong about Shea. I really thought he would turn it around, but he hasn't. His last few USMNT outings have been awful, and now he can't get into a Championship team's 18 game day roster.

I always felt if Shea developed in Europe, he would be X 100 better. He has a slow soccer brain courtesy of MLS development.

Ill never forget when he pulled a "wondo" and wiffed on that wide open goal playing for the national team !!
