It's being reported the game was the last chance for MLSers to show their stuff. But it's starting to look like MLS will field a core of the WC team with Besler, Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley and Zusi locked in as starters.

It's also being widely reported that Gonzerror was responsible for the first Mexico goal and at least lackadaisical, slow and unfit for the second. Can't go to WC with him and expect not to give away stupid goals. I hope others will call for his total removal from the team.

I hold Besler, Cameron, and Orozco higher than Gonzo.

What did we learn? The USMNt can play well for about 60 minutes. Gonzo can put in a good 88 miunute performance and then falls flat for 2 minutes which results in bad errors.

Landon Donovan is not the same player he was.

Dempsey continues to be mercurial. Flashes of brilliance with equally languid play.

Green has a shot to be ont eh WC team.

Yedlin has a shot to be on the WC team.

Besler starts at LCB in the WC.

Wondo may be the best option off the bench when you need a goal.

Loving the play of Bradley, Besler, the overall work of Wondo.

Yedlin is built like an American Roberto Carlos, why have I missed that.

Parkhurst' touch on the ball and awareness compared to both Gonzalez and Goodson showed, I would like him to get a shot at CB.

But most of all, even though it was a friendly, I was disappointed in the second half start. Yes, I respect Mexico and all, but we approached the second half a little too laid back, without that killer instinct. If we happen to go up 2-0 against Ghana, I'd prefer to see an approach to win 4-1 instead of the turtle act we did the other night.

Parkhurst doesn't have the physicality and athleticism to play CB against GHA,GER,POR strikers.

Clearly showed that whether it's Beckerman or Jones in the CDM role, whoever it is HAS to lay back and let Bradley push forward. It freed up everyone to make better run and the team was clearly more attack oriented than it ever has been.

And...we have big problems at the center back. Unfortunately, there are no clear solutions either.

We've got problems across the entire back-line, except for perhaps LB, oddly enough. I think both CB jobs are still up for grabs. Besler may well have his foot in the door at one, but I don't believe he has done enough to solidify his role as a starter. I would be very interested to see G. Cameron and T. Ream given opportunities to prove their worth at CB.

Yedlin looks great and continues to improve each game, but his 1v1 defending is suspect at times. However, the same could be said for all of our RB prospects, so I think his WC involvement hinges on how much faith he can instill in Klinsmann's mind prior to the final roster announcement.

Major thing I learned about this game is that are guys are not yet 90 min match fit yet. International games are a whole lot tougher than league matches. Hell the guys have to be 120 min match fit should we advance out of our group.

I didn't think that Gonzo played even 88 minutes of good football. He had a couple of bad giveaways early. And he's been good for a massive error in every game I have watched save for the qualifier at Azteca.

Agree that Parkhurst really helped his chances, but he can't be a CB.

I really think Gooch is going to make a serious push to start with Besler. If not, I'd rather see Goodson there instead of Gonzo.

Donovan seems to have a real fitness issue at the moment. Unless he gets that in order, I don't think he is a sure fire starter. He had a couple of good runs late, but also had some very sluggish moments.

We learned that MB90 is world class. OK, I guess we already knew that.

We learned that the initial commenter on this thread is smoking crack because he said we learned Lando is a lock to start at the WC. Huh? We actually learned the opposite: I do not consider him a lock to start. I still do THINK he'll start though.

We got another data point showing MLS's steady improvement.

Agree with MOST of the other conclusions. The only other thing I'd add is that I think we learned Mexico is still not a very good team. I mean, we looked so fucking good in that first half. Too good to be true?

I learned that a lot of ppl are being too harsh on a 32 year old who's just beginning the season.. Has a few knocks but is being singled out when he had a good 10-15 minutes of the 30 he played. The whole team looked terrible in the second half but it's been said that he is this or that.. What happened to Bradley? Beckerman? Dempsey? They were invisible almost the whole second half until Donovan had his good minutes but not many comments on that? Once Donovan's wheels kick in everybody will want him starting.. Zusi is ok Davis sucks Bedoya is at Zusi level. I'm sorry but no one is a better option than Donovan once he steps it up physically.. Cutting him off the starting line up for a bad friendly lol.. Please. In that case Green should stop being called because Donovan at 18, scored a goal and had an assist vs Mexico in his first game.

I learned that the future is now, just about any player we have over the age of 29 (minus GKs, obviously) should be put out to pasture and we should start developing the younger guys.

I don't think we're being too harsh at all. The idea that people don't want him to start is a straw man. He had some moments against Mexico, for certain, but he also looked a step slow to me. At 32, we can't take it as an article of faith that his legs will kick in, especially considering we're about two months out from the Ghana match. I still think he is the best option, but the unwavering confidence that LD will be a fixture in this iteration of the National Team is not warranted right now.

Hopefully he steps it up and gets it going.. Cause if we(they plus us as fans) have a shot making it through the group, it would be with him.. Maybe not playing the stellar role anymore but helping out..

I wrote something beautiful and inspirational.. Better than the How I Met Your Mothrr finale and pressed refresh instead of post.. :/ but yeah you are right.. I just saw so much hate towards him in FB and some here.. I just know that if we are to make it passed the group, it would be with his help.. Not as the stellar role anymore but assisting.. USA!!
