just a quick public service announcement... La Liga is the best league in the world.

continually in US soccer circles you see people describe La Liga as a 2 team league with no depth whatsoever. its just not even close to being true and it makes those individuals, and US soccer fans in general, look silly

right now La Liga has more teams than any country - six - alive in euro comps - 3 in UCL, 3 in europa. all 3 in UCL will advance to QF. 2 will advance to europa QF (2 play against each other in RO16)

why are US fans so ill-informed about La Liga? part of it i suppose, is that while a number of US players play in england and german leagues very few play in spain.

there is a reason spain has dominated international football over the last half dozen years - a ridiculous amount of domestic talent. beyond that spain imports a HUGE amount of talent from portugal and south america (mainly brazil, argentina and uruguay) and sprinkles in some quality talent from the rest of europe and africa

this archaic notion that spain is a 2 team league needs to die quickly

Hey man I love La Liga, my number 1 preferred league! Forza Barcelona all day everyday! Not only that but have already been to several of their games and man are they awesome....

Have always felt we should have more Americans play in that league instead of EPL, tired of Americans always making the EPL their number one choice! That league is extremely technical, and attack minded! You can only grow in that league, and stand still with your talent wasting away.

As you like to do its very easy to make claims and use stats without painting the whole pcture. yes 3 la Liga teams are alive in Europa League but actually look at the results and you get the real picture. They combined to win 12 of 24 games. Not exactly dominating. Those games were also against teams from Croatia, Switzerland, Russia (but not the good Russia Teams) and Ukraine. When playing real teams you see the struggles. Valencia went 1-1 with a bad Swansea team (-2 GD). Betis went 0-1-1 against Lyon, currently 6th place in France. Sevilla beat Freiburg both times which is great but that puts them 3-2-1 against teams that can compete with a +1 GD. Not exactly breaking the archane notion when they are at best equal to those other teams. For Europa League real teams dont start using their starters until the knockout rounds (leaves them eligible if they transfer) so we'll see how they do know. With matches against Bulgaria and themselves Im sure theyll have 2 teams in the QF but we'll see how they do if they draw one of the Italian teams, Benfica or Spurs. Athletico is very good this year so I wont be surprised if they put 2 teams in UCL semis but throwing all your eggs in a one year basket doesnt do much. Athletico must show they can sustain a team without hitting financial peril (see Anzhi, Racing Santander, others)

Overall the soccer is better. And Yes ill say top 2 in the world maybe #1 is up there with the Bundesliga. And they arguably have 3 of the top 5 teams in the world. If we had more Americans in La liga we would be a top 10 team in the world year in and out.

And yes La liga is probably the hardest league in the world to succeed and prevail. As in England is easier for Americans to make it, the style of soccer fits them.

you forgot to start this post with "I think..."

A leagues performance in Europe is not a deciding factor.

But I will give you that La Liga is not a 2 team league anymore, it's 3 teams now.

The final stretch of the English league season is upon us, with several Americans on the verge of relegation with their teams.
