3 goals in his first 2 matches. Nice to see him healthy again.

Berhalter is a great coach for Zardes.

Had a brace last night, should have been a hat trick but he was unlucky and hit the woodwork a couple of times. He is looking very dangerous right now, his off the ball movement is outstanding.

Looks like he can be an effective player with the right cast around him. If all he has to do is finish and not necessarily be responsible for creating chances from nothing he might be useful for the national team. When he had to do more things outside of his skill set that seems to be when the trouble sets in

When Gyasi simplifies himself as a striker he is very good. And I think he still deserves to be a member of the USMNT striker pool. Quite frankly the USMNT still lacks depth at striker.

Out of healthy AJ, "in form" Wood, Novakovich, Weah, Siebatchu, Seargeant, Boyd, Rubin, Green who should brick footed Zardes be selected over? Humor me!
Another note, Morales will be back in Bundesliga next yr.

Siebatcheu isn't a USMNT player. Green isn't a striker and had three goals all season for Furth. Sargent isn't playing first team soccer yet. Zardes can help now. Maybe not in the future but he can bridge the gap a little. But hey whatever. I'm not the coach nor are you.

Humor you! It's your post that's humorous! You're talking about having guys who don't even dress for their respective teams or guys who are totally unproven at the national team level higher on the depth chart than a guy who is leading his league in scoring. I am not going to humor you as your post is ridiculous.

What's ridiculous is not considering the quality of the player, quality of defense, and quality of goals when rating a striker.
The biggest problem with US Soccer is we do an awful job of rating players.
Chris Wondolowski has led MLS in scoring and we all know he was a terrible player for US Nats, because it's more difficult to score internationally and he was a very limited player. Alan Gordon was another good MLS scorer that was terrible at the international level.
Zardes doesn't have the quality to be in the pool with AJ, Wood, Novakovich, Siebatchu, Weah, Boyd, Rubin Green, Seargeant.
It's as simple as that.

bjelks, I like that you mention quality of defense and then list mostly guys who play in a second division or with a youth/reserve team, when indeed they actually play. Your trolling needs work.

@db707 but according to everyone else in the world not an mls homer, the quality of defense in mls isn't better than second division in England, Germany, France and the reserves and alternates at PSG and Wereder Bremen are playing at a higher level than MLS regulars.
Not trolling, just pointing out that I've never seen Zardes score a difficult goal of quality and that doesn't translate to international.
Which is why, you've never heard of any 1st teams abroad rate him.

bjelks, you've clearly never watched games in the Domino's Ligue 2, for example. I have, there are definitely a majority of teams at sub-MLS level there. Then you talk about scoring difficult goals, when arguing for guys who have never scored senior team goals like Weah and Sargent, or never scored an international goal like Boyd or Rubin.

Maybe there are quite a few Ligue 2 team's subpar to MLS, but to be 22, 2nd in the league in scoring and lead his team to promotion is nothing to shake a stick at (Siebatchu).
We've seen Zardes score tap ins in MLS and against bad international teams, but his lack of quality and awful first touch will show against better competition.
We know that Weah and Sargent simply have more quality than Zardes no matter the lack of club goals and against tough competition it will show.
For Boyd and Rubin, scoring international goals is all about opportunity.
For example, Julian Green was playing 4th division reserves when scored that beautiful volley against Belgium in the WC. His experience didn't matter because his quality scored the goal.
Quality isn't measured in tap ins. It's measured in ability.
