Seems to me it has become a yearly tradition. Plus lots of money in it for all those involved!

Confidence.
Nothing says you're ready for the world stage like trouncing your biggest rival.

Its gonna be a domestic match basically and that "confidence" gain can back fire if we lose?

A lot of money, potential confidence boost, weeding out players before may and the chance to play a hungry team in a friendly. Both teams will be playing at 110 percent also its a chance to assess both mls and mexican league players one last time before may. Truthfully since this is outside of the normal friendlies date this was probably the best team we could face.

Is that a slight against Arizonans? Are they renowned for their portliness?

This says it all. Given the circumstances this is about as good as it gets for JK's roster assessment, US soccer's wallet and us fans. It's great for Mexico too.

USA will have a very good squad for this game. Almost a WC starting line up. Also since Fabian Johnson is out of favor with hoffenheim im sure klissman will call him in for this game.
--- Dempsey Donovan --
Fabian -- Beckerman - Bradley - Zusi
Beasley - Besler - Gonzo - Evans
------ Rimando ----
Subs. S Johnson, Wondo, Yedlin/Castillo, Davis, Goodson, Corona.

Its aimed towards the mexican crowd. I went to the gold cup in 2011. There was not one hot chick in attendance at that game and the fats chicks out numbered the skinny ones

Should be interesting to see who gets the call-up. I am sure some Liga MX guys will be called in for it as well.
Other possibles: O'Neil, Pontius, McCarty, Klute, Feilhaber, Arriola
And who knows if Fabian Johnson does indeed go into Hoffenheim purgatory, we may see him called in as well.

If McGee starts off like he played last year I could see him get his look he didnt get in jan. camp. Same for Jack Mac and Bruin. They are obviously on JK's watch list with semi-recent call ups. A strong MLS start could get them a look ala Buddle/Findley '10.
