Jones will definitely be and start in the World cup since he would be a 90 min Man At Besiktas!

He was always going, we don't have anyone else more defense-oriented in the midfield unless you move Cam up from RB/CB. Beckerman is close but he's more box-to-box than Jones and should be played a bit higher up the pitch.

100% chance barring injury to be in Brazil. I'll say 50% chance to be a starter

he was always going, but not really because a lack of defensive-oriented options

williams, edu and bradley, if you ask him, can fill that role

True, but Williams is even more inconsistent than Jones, Edu hasn't played in forever and Bradley is always going to be pushed further ahead than whoever he pairs with. I'm sure Beckerman could be made to sit back and would be a decent enough option as a CDM, but other than that everyone in the conversation is more offensive.

have to keep in mind that williams, at 24 y/o, is ever improving while jones, at 32, is in decline.

would love to see williams get a half (or more) v ukraine to get an idea of how much he has improved in the last year - we have not seen him for nats in almost a year

I'm on board with that. I still think Jones is starting next to MB, unless he's hurt, vs Ghana. However I don't think he makes it past the 65th minute in any game he starts.

another good reason to think about not starting JJ - if he is maybe not a great option to give you 90m, maybe not a great option to start... you really might want / need to use those subs on other spots

Better than the jones/bradley thread. Anyways I think Mix should start vs ghana, Jones vs Germany, Portugal.

The next test for the Dooley-led revitalization of the Philippine national team kicks off soon.
