The La Galaxy have become the first team in MLS that will have its reserve team playing in the usl pro league. Hopefully more teams will follow in the coming years

Really love this move for a lot of reasons, mainly due to the fact that all the young MLS players who are not getting time can develop in a competitive yet professional environment through a whole season packed with games. Will LA 2 be able to play in the Open Cup?

I was just about to start this thread. Huge news from LA/MLS, love the fact that a lot of youngsters will get a shot to play high level soccer, and many first team players that don't really get a shot will play more often. @gd10 yes they will be eligible to play in the open cup since their a USL team, Just imagine if galaxy 2 takes out galaxy that would be something astonishing. Haji wright will start for them of course. Wonder if their games will be at the stub hub center.

does anyone know what kind of salary cap rules the usl has ? and will they be able to transition back and forth from the first team ? could be a great move to keep young players from la in the mls, maybe would of been able to keep Paul arriola.

Question is, why aren't more MLS teams running to do this?

Not many teams will do this only the top clubs. For example in Spain they have barca B, Madrid B, i think villareal B. I think only a few teams will do this in mls, NY, Seattle, maybe portland, Houston, Miami when they get a team. Galaxy are the pioneers of this, is almost as big as an expansion club. I hope all teams fallow in their footsteps. Im sure they will have a few big signings. maybe Bocanegra if he leaves ? Buffon ? Klose after WC ? ext...

Although no other team has a strict U21 team in USL now a lot of them have partnerships where they will send a minimum of 3 players to the USL team. SKC with Orlando, I thought I read chives or Portland partnered with Sacramento, revs and Rochester. Etc

I think there will be definitely be two more of those style of teams next year. Dallas was linked to creating their own Dallas II and RSL is linked to forming their own USL Pro team in San Diego

Played Galaxy very good tonight. Went toe to tie even though they lost 3/0. Had same amount of shots and similar possesion. Should be good in the usl this year. Plus they weee missing some key players. Great atmosphere for a friendly game.

More teams need this! Obviously not every team has the resources but NY Red Bulls Seattle Sounders and Toronto definitely should kick these USL club aswell. Whether you like the Galaxy or not we should all wish this a successful outcome only then team can follow. Not only that but it just raises the bar higher for USL teams.

Galaxy 2 will have a much higher attendance than chivas usa. They will easily get 10k plus on average. Im calling them in the final vs orlando already.

I bet there attendance won't reach 5k. La is the most superficial sports town. They only care about superstars or champion caliber teams. They won't care about a minor league soccer team.
