Akale won player of the tournament, I'm sure more European trials to come for him.

That is very impressive!! Considering Spain brought their best 96's and 97's and Argentina brought a good team of 95's, this kid just may have a bright future!

Akale had trials earlier year with PSG and Lyon, nothing materialized. Not sure how bad he wants to go to Europe. Great talent tho.

Youth tournaments are more about identifying and developing talent than results. But once you get to the u20s its more about results because most of the players are signed and set on a path of either college or being a professional.

Great article, summed up perfectly at the end.

"Whatever happens it is key that we, as fans, stop placing such importance on wins and losses and continue to support these coaches who push these exciting prospect to their limits while at the same time giving them the freedom to play."

This. Exactly this. We need to stop the "a loss is a loss, no matter what" attitude. If we were Germany or Brazil, sure, maybe we could have that mentality. But we are still a very young footballing nation, and right now, development is 100x more important for this age group than results.

Read this article earlier, pretty much what I said in my previous above statement.

Gruno is one 99 I've been saying should get a u17 call up, he and Barbir would prob look nice as CBs. Leicester will be in EPL next season anyways. Akale and Redding prob next to make the jump to Europe.

No WINNING is everything! Just kidding. I have never been one to really put much on final results as a team at the youth level even the U-20's. What I look at is individual talent.

Just realized two big 97s were missing from this tournament, Amirgy Pineda and Brooks Lennon. Perhaps results would of been different if these two could of attended.

A lot of really negative comments about the goalie on that youtube vid...not all his fault, any real defending would have stopped those first 2 goals from even becoming shots.

Yeah those comments are ridiculous. A bunch of armchair strikers.

Yea, it's definitely the defense fault the ball went right through him... I wonder if water goes right through him when he's in the shower too.

I'm not saying he's not culpable to a degree, he should have done better...but making the whole thing about him is a gross oversimplification.
