For the past decade the MLS has brought in a European team to play the MLS All-Stars and will be facing Bayern Muenchen this year. Do you think the MLS should continue this approach with future All-Star games?

One of my favorite All-Star games was the 2002 Arena coached USMNT (consisting of past and present MLS based MNTers) vs. the rest of the MLS. I would love to see the MLS bring back this All-Star theme.

I also think that the league is strong enough now that East vs. West would be a draw. They could also try an NHL style North America vs. the World.

I would disagree that MLS is strong enough for East vs. West. I don't think they have the depth of interesting players for that yet.

America vs. the World would be very interesting and a cool idea.

Oh man i would love that idea. I remember those games. America Vs Europe, Argentina vs the world, brazil vs the world, South america vs europe. That would be awesome Aemerica vs the world. I think America would kick ass. Messi, Suarez, cavani, neymar, donovan, howard, alves, falcao ext......

Oh I understood it as Americans in the MLS vs foreigners in the MLS for the all star game. I'm not sure what he actually meant by that haha.

Yeah, I was thinking an All-Star game consisting of just MLS based players. I don't know that you could get a hodge podge of non-MLS foreign players to participate in an All-Star game.

Yeah, that's not gonna happen. And if it did, the USA would get spanked.

Back in the day it was East vs West. In 2002 they did USMNT vs the rest (all MLS based) then they played Chivas followed by a bunch of English teams, then Roma and now Bayern. What are you alluding to?

I mean how they used to do it around the world in the 90s, 80s. Saw the games on YouTube. Used to be Brazil vs the world, south America vs Europe, Italy vs south America, Argentina vs the world, America vs the world/eurioe ext... They used to have games like that before. I mean mls is the only league I know that has an all star game, they dont have that in Europe or liga mx, or south America. Tbey should bring it back America vs the world/europe would be awesome. But I get that USA is trying to grow mls as a whole.

With no games until September, I'm very much of the opinion that the MLS should have cashed in on the World Cup by reinstating the 2002 USMNT themed All Star game.

How amazing would it have been to have Juergen coach this team:

--Clint--Landon--
-Davis----Zusi--
--Bradley--Beckerman-
-Parkhurst-Besler-Omar-Yedlin
--Rimando--

They could have faced the international team consisting of Henry, Cahill, Keane plus Costa Ricans like Roy Miller and Giancarlo Gonzalez.

I'd rather see that game than the MLS All Stars vs Bayern and Bayern is one of the most attractive opponents the MLS has secured.

Bump. Two years later I've only enhanced my opinion that MLS and US Soccer need to cash in on that SUM agreement and implement the 2002 All Star game format with one small change: The MNT should face the world and not the MLS All Stars.

Bizarrely as the 2002 format was the USMNT consisting of MLSers that either currently played or had previously played for the MNT so the MLS All Stars that they faced had young guys like Howard, Bocanegra and Twellman that hadn't yet broken through into the MNT.

If they go with this format they don't need to share revenue or pay any outsiders besides Klinsmann (or his replacement).

Just think about how good this game could be. There's plenty of room to argue the starting 11 for both teams which is a great position to be in. Wouldn't you much rather see an All Star game that featured lineups like this?

US MNT

-Morris-Dempsey-Zardes-
--Nagbe-Jones---
---Bradley----
-Shea-Besler-Birnbaum-Acosta-
---Hamid-----

vs

World

-David Villa-BWP--
--Piatti--Kaka--
--Laba-Alonso--
-Figueroa-Ciman-Waston-Afful-
---Ousted----

Get some of the older guys like Beasley and Parkhurst on in the second half for one last go in a US jersey.

I was pulling those lineups together quickly and forgot to include Giovinco the best player in the league in the World side. Oops.

We would get killed like a 6-1 type of score.

I hate to be the harbinger of bad news, ladies and gentlemen, but Michael Orozco will start for the US men's national team in Jacksonville.
