Germany's team is getting decimated by injuries. Lahm was injured in the German Cup final. His foot and ankle wrapped up.

Shwiensteiger has knee problems.

Khedira won't be 100 percent.

If both Schweini and Lahm have serious injuries and are unable to go at the WC then those are huge holes for Germany to fill, and a big blow to their chances. I would give Portugal the edge in that first game.

Ronaldo my eat them alive if they keep getting injuries. Germany biggest concern was their defense going into this world cup.

Im still sticking with Portugal as best team in group, moreso now with Germany's injuries. Portugal has a more solid backline.

Germany just knows how to get to the quarterfinals. No matter how good or suspect their roster is on paper they always get there. Not that it doesn't help our chances.

Maybe this is what Klinsmann is thinking, just pounce on players from Germany that have been playing 50 to 60 games... not counting international duty... who are picking up fitness issues...

So the onus is for our boys to be as fit as possible. Also who here feels somewhat happy that our backline vs germany is going against an aging Klose as opposed to a spry Gomez.

On paper if I'm USA I'm choosing to go up against klose over Gomez every time. But klose just knows how to score in a World Cup. I still remember watching him score on seemingly every corner kick in japan. It was crazy.

Ronaldo is having injury issues of his own. His knees are giving him problems and his hamstring.

All of a sudden, the midseason MLS break looks like better preparation than a long, dragged out European marathon of domestic and champions league. Our guys are fresher. May be our one true advantage.

Totally agree. Guys who just slogged through a 36-40 week season, with mid week cup games/euro games are exhausted. The body can always use a break. The euro guys will not be getting that break. It only takes 1-2 months to be in peak season form and have your legs underneath you.

You think Klose's lost something w/ regards to skill due to age? One can hope =D

Yeah, no.

It's a month in between games and they are already fit and in form to go 90. They will be fine for 3-5 more games. Existing injuries are the only concern. And those can happen to MLS players just as easily.

Not really. A whole season is still a season. Athletes always have knocks we may never know about. Europe based players are beat up. But they tough it out for the World Cup.
