There is something being played for every single week in Europe. Domestic titles, Champions League berths, Europa League berths, and battling against relegation. Until the very end of the year, there are almost zero meaningless games. Thats the difference.

With the rules change for getting into CCL it will be like that in MLS as well. Rewarding conference winners was a very good idea. Now teams can't coast into the playoffs.

Fighting to get into the playoffs is basically like European teams fighting to not get relegated.

Something else that kills MLS for me is the playoff system. Its like every team gets in. Whats the point of trying to win every game if you know you are going to make it to the playoffs anyways? Sure hoe field is nice but come on. New York and Portland should have just layed low the last few weeks of the season. Playoffs in football? It should have been New York and Portland in the Final.

5 teams out of each conference make it. 10 teams out of 19? That's not every team. And that likely will not change as MLS add teams.

I like playoffs. It's American, I am American, and MLS is American.

With the rule change teams will have to fight till the end to win their conferences to get into CCL.

Not every game matters for every team in the EPL or the Bundesliga. If a team is middle table and has no way of climbing the table with enough points to stay middle table with a month to go then those teams don't have to try either.

It's an illusion that every game is important in some of those European leagues.

Exactly. You have 4-5 teams fighting to avoid relegation, 6-7 teams battling for europe and the other 10 teams just coast. The teams that finish 8th-15th usually dont play a meaningful game the last two months of the season. They usually are never within 8 points of europe or relegation from march onwards.

Nycfc, Oralndo, Miami, Possibly Atlanta, maybe St louis down the road. Just recently MLS was ranked the 7th best league in the world but it is safe to say mls will definetly be a top 5 league in the next couple years. New teams coming in with great ownership, star players soon to come, more teams = more players/Talent and competition, and specially if USA has a very good run in this WC Soccer will Grow hugely in this country and likely making it 3rd behind nfl, nba, I dont know how many people like baseball but i think is the most boring sport ever created i don't think no one cant watch an entire baseball game. Anyways the future of soccer in usa is extremely bright and many young kids soon will dream of playing in mls, not just nba, nfl, therefore having more talent.

It'll be a decade or longer before MLS can even rival baseball. EPL games rarely go over 1 million viewers. MLS are well below 1 million. Game 6 of the World Series got 19.2 million viewers. Although more view in for the playoffs, that's a tall task for MLS. The 2013 MLS Cup got 505,000 viewers.

Baseball is losing its younger viewers while MLS is gaining. But it'll be a while before MLS can actually rival baseball.

Of course mls will generate more $ in the next couple yrs therefore raising the salary significantly high. Attendances will go up, ticket prices, jersey/attire sales, concession stand sales, advertising, most likely TV views, Billionaire owners ext, the $ will pour in that's not a problem, this is America.

I like the MLS playoff system over the BORING European table.

In MLS, everyone can win the league, unlike in Europe. Yes, 10 of the 19(but soon to be 24 by the end of the decade) get into the playoffs but still 9-14 will not get in.
There are other incentives as well.

CCL(winner of the East/West.) and the top 3 avoid the wild card game, which is massive. 4th place hosts that game, big difference between 4th and 5th place in each conference.

As the years go on and we add more teams I definitely like our structure.

Everywhere else is so BORING. In England we already know the same 3 or 4 teams that will win the league EVERY damn year. And that is a lot compared to Spain or Germany now....eek.

Playoffs > table any time. Makes it more exiting, and better, competitive. And yes all the top 5 leagues in the world we all know who will be the top 5 teams every damm year.

I agree with RED. MLS is unique with the American touch. If Reg and Pro comes to fruition that would also mean teams fighting to stay off the 2nd division.
Yes let be honest in EPL its either Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal or Man City.
Lets be real honest no one out of these 4 teams have a chance for the EPL title. Yes its competitive but the end result is just this 4.
Maybe just maybe the odd year you can get get some else but no.
La Liga its always been Barcelona and Madrid and now Atletico. But the true teams to always be up there is Madrid and Barcelona.
Germany seems to always be Bayern I mean they basically won already the league title. Dortmund has the outside chance but not this year.

MLS no where near the talent level yet but from here on now folks it about going up. Toronto with massive buy and LA with new USL Pro team is setting the bar higher and higher.

Agree. But i guess the point was in recent years even though Liverpool won UCL in 2005 correct?
