Why does almost everyone rule out Donovan and Dempsey? All these other players can fall off or suffered an injury, or something. IF Donovan still wants to play and runs decently I'd take him. Dempsey too, up top.

No way should either of those players touch the pitch in 2016 and on.

Live490 - Of course but I guess we all can assume that they wont play that big of a role like this cycle. Any injuries or emergencies only but we really have to start putting new blood to the team as it changes its play style

I agree Zavala, i think that the concacaf is playable at a higher age and with their experience they can play important roles. The hunchback magician did it at 36-37, and i see Donovan with way more qualities than Blanco. Dempsey no. 34 and 33 is still good to go at 2016, even 36-37. Slow though.

USnLFCfan has it spot on by the time 2016 rolls around they should be on their way out unless some miracle happens where they keep playing high level. Copa America 2016 in the USA (maybe) should def be the last thing they do. After that the younger players have to qualify us for Russia 2018.
Definitely try to win Copa America with them as a send off but still long way to go or if they retire early use that tournament to give more experience to our younger players.

You are right! It will be sad when both Dempsey and Donovan retire. 2018 cycle will be way to rigorous for them to handle at such age with 2 gold cup and one copa america and depending if we qualify a confed cup. Busy busy cycle.

Hopefully from all these players we get one as good or at least three half as good. Good thing is we have the General for a while.

Who will be the starting strikers or striker for the 2018 WC?

Here is a list that will definitely change in the coming years, but right now this is as good as any list of players to choose from:

1. Johannsson
2. Altidore
3. Agudelo
4. Boyd
5. Bobby Wood
6. McInerney
7. Villarreal
8. Salgado
9. Kevin Hoyos
10. Conor Doyle
11. Will Bruin
12. Ben Spencer
13. Andrija Novakovich
14. Zardes
15. Haji Wright
16. Alonso Hernandez

If we used two, I'd like AJ and Boyd.

I would want to go with AJ and Agudelo at that point. I am tired of Jozy not being able to create for himself.

We have so much unproven talent in the 2018 cycle that it's tough to tell how it will go. We could see the start of a golden generation and we could also see an unfilled void left by the vets like Donovan and Dempsey. I'm more excited for 2014 for now as its a good mix of new and old.

Yea im sure USA will have several new players for 18. I mean in 10 im sure most people had some players in Brazil as locks. For example, Findley, Gomez, Torres, Clark, Holden, Davies, bocanegra, Castillo, gooch, adu, cherundolo, ext... Im sure im missing a couple. Anyways 2018 will have huge changes. And honestly I only see 2 players as locks for 18 and thats Bradley, Guzan thats it..

You'd have to think that the somewhat young backline core will still be around: Besler, Gonzo, Brooks, Fabian and maybe Chandler. They might not all be starters but barring injury I would expect them to be in the mix. It's the midfield and forwards that become harder to predict in the 2018 cycle.

You are 100% wrong. Im sure they will be in the mix. But I bet every mnt fan had dolo, gooch, boca, even de merit at a thought. ? In 14 to be in the mix. And as a MNT fan in that yr.had.Chandler, Fabian, Gonzo, besler,Evans, Brooks, Cameron, Beasley as our backline in 2014 ?? Am I right.. No one would of predicted... And im sure.other positions would change. Ia the law of nature, change happens.

Boca, DeMerit and Dolo are all 34 and I still think Dolo will be our starting RB in brazil. Gooch is 31 but injuries have turned him into a different player.

Besler, Gonzo, Brooks, Fabian, Chandler and Lichaj will all be 30 or under in 2018. Crazy things can happen that we never see coming like Beasley at LB this cycle and injuries and a lack of PT are real threats but I would expect at least two of the players listed above to be starting in 2018.
