I understand that. Realistically any coach who coaches Spain will have them as favorite. But read some of the stuff that was written after the confed loss to brazil, and even the near loss to Italy. People are already suggesting he is having a hard time turning the team over to new players. I guarentee that if Spain doesnt make at least the semis there will be articles saying how del Bosque should have went with new players, or Spain stayed with a coach too long. If they win then clearly del Bosque is the first coach in modern history to keep a team focused for 2 cycles. It hasnt happened yet. We shall see
Del Bosque actually won their only World Cup (supposedly an impossible task for Spain, how quickly we all forget this now that they have turned into a SuperPower of World Soccer), before that Spain was a regionalistic nation known for failure at big tournaments.

I made two longs trips to Germany in 2005 and again in 2006 for the World Cup. This same argument was had at that time in Germany about Klinsmann, and he did well at the world cup. In fact the match they lost v Italy was a classic. Klinsmann completely overhauled the German system and used "positive thinking" as his mantra. The press alternately made fun of it, or were deferential to his career as a player and didn't bother him pre WC 2006. He was under enormous pressure that year hosting the WC, and with a young team they did well. He obviously did a good job as manager, and the structure he put in place has continued under Low, who perhaps is better at X's and O's, although he has yet to replicate Klinsmann's success. (A last minute loss to Italy in the Semifinals).

Here as US coach, his record in terms of results is second to none. At times we have played poor soccer, but changing styles isn't so easy to do with the same players, who were used to playing differently under Bradley. Changing their mentalities to be more ruthless and to be the favorites is perhaps even harder than switching players and formations. I am very confident that in this aspect, we are much better under Klinsmann than Bradley, and that is progress in itself. Bradley's X's and O's ability may have been better than JK's (and im sure there are other and future coaches will have superior tactical ability as well), but that's not all the game is about. Perhaps its reputation but there's a reason that Tottenham and Switzerland (and i'm sure a host of others) would want Klinsmann as coach, let alone technical director.

Oh, and how could i forget, the most important thing:

GOALS. there seems to be a real lack of understanding for what the forward position does. their supposed to score goals people! altidore has to sit on the bench. he has scored one goal this season. you can't start just because you were good last season. boyd and wondolowski, on the other hand, continue to be goal-scoring machines. now, it is true that the EPL is much, much better than the austrian league or mls (EPL is by far the best league in the world), but if you play like crap in it, you shouldn't get to start. i'd rather have someone balling it up in a lower league than playing really poorly in a good league.

for example, say we give the epl a rating of 5.0 and the austrian league a rating of 1.5 boyd has scored 7 goals in the austrian league this season: that would give him 10.5. altidore, on the other hand, has only scored once, which would give him a 5. boyd is doing twice as good. also, boyd has scored 3 goals in the europea league this season. the europa league might have a rating of 2.0, which would give him a total of 10.5+6=16.5. 16.5 is a LOT higher than 5, people. now, i am not saying that these numbers are exact...maybe the austrian league is more like a 1.2...but my point is obvious. boyd should definitely start over altidore based on current form and i have noticed he gets no cred on this site.

right now, boyd is our best american forward and anyone that doesn't have him in our starting lineup doesn't know what they are talking about. yeah it was altidore last year but he wasn't playing in the epl and he has proven this year that he is not up to the task. my guess is that boyd goes to the epl this summer and has a good season next year, at least better than altidore.

johansson is also in form and scoring lots of goals in an ok league.

and of course there is wondolowski. he has been the top-scoring american over the past few years and is the best player in the mls (other than zusi). even if you gave the mls a 1.0 rating he'd have more points than the other american forward (donovan, ej, dempsey, etc.).

again, i dare you to find one problem with this line-up. if we make these roster selections, we are a top 10 team:

Johansson Boyd Wondolowski
Adu Kljestan Bradley EJ
FJ Gonzalez Lichaj
Howard

super-sub x factor: Graham Zusi, Josh Gatt (if he gets healthy), Joe Gyau

not too late to ask gulati to fire klinsmann and get us a good manager who can get us playing JOGA BONITA with a lineup like this. i was thinking maybe we could pull sir alec ferguson out of retirement or maybe get guardiola to coach us part time (sometimes managers do both at the same time if it's for a short while, like hiddink with russia and chelsea). he spent time in new york and i'm sure he'd love to coach us. who wouldn't, this team is filled with YOUNG TALENT. if we can't get either of those we can still hire bruce arenas, he is probably sick of la, and we know he'll do better than that clown jurgen.

You wait all this time to post.....and that's your first post???? And your second??? This is what you held in? Should have not bothered, haha. Find something wrong with your lineup that gets us a top 10 team......besides the fact that you have two players that should NEVER see the field, and running a 3-4-3 with ONE CB.....seems kind of obvious.

Wonder if you're alcharod since you're mentioning Adu. Wonder if you're rain due to your dislike for JK. Wonder if you're serious. Wonder if it's a joke.

which two players? i guess the worst player in my line-up is probably ej but name one guy in our current pool that is faster than him. and ej is a good player. all of them are very good players this team is loaded with talent. never before have we had the option of bringing guys like zusi, gyau, donovan, dempsey, etc. off the bench.

and we can run that 3-4-3 because gonzalez is a BEAST. he's our gooch 2.0. we don't need that extra cb. and anyway we have lichaj, who is a hybrid rb/cb and a great defender. klinsmann is an idiot for not giving him more playing time and it's one of the many reasons we need a coaching change. and fabian johnson has the speed to get back on defense. yeah it's a little risky playing such an offensive formation but we need to start playing with STYLE and start attacking. klinsmann promised us that and hasn't delivered at all. the team has regressed.

next...

Yeah, nobody could truthfully be that clueless. It has to be a little alter ego payback from a YA regular.

Adu?
3 Strikers up top?
Sir Alex coming out of retirement?
Change the settings to increase the player rating of each of our players stats to 99 everything and being 7 feet tall?

I love it.

not sure the point of this post. adu is the most naturally talented player we have ever had. jozy altidore said he was the best player he ever played with, and he has played for some good european teams. now i know he hasn't gotten a lot of pt recently but bahia is a mess. the journalists were praising adu and said he played really well in practice. but what matters is how you play for the national team. adu tears it up when wearing the us jersey. when has he not played well for us? the last few times he has played for the national team he has been our best player. mexico gets it. dos santos usually doesn't start for the club level but he gets to play for mexico because he is good. and look at what he did to us at the 2011 gold cup. you pick your best players PERIOD. adu needs to start and i don't understand why more people don't get that. do you guys want to see brad davis or herculez gomez on the left wing or freddy adu????

i admit three strikers up top might be a risk but those are risks we need to start taking if we want to start playing JOGA BONITA. i'm sick of watching us play such boring soccer. klinsmann promised he would change the style but it's only gotten worse.

i don't see why we couldn't get ferguson to come out of retirement. we're the us, we have things to offer that other countries don't. we're too important of a country to have an amateur like klinsmann in charge. yeah he was a great player but that doesn't mean you know anything about coaching.
