With Leon advancing to the Liga MX final, what's everyones opinion about getting William Yarbrough a look at GK? maybe getting him cap-tied? He was born in Jalisco but both parents are American. He is improving drastically and he's 24. Worth a look?

This came up a few months ago if I'm not mistaken. He still hasn't really played many first team matches for Leon. He's got talent, no doubt about that but I couldn't say he's shown himself to be better than the young guys of the same age we currently have.

Congratulations for Mexican American yarbrough winning liga mx championship. Im sure is the first Mexican American goalkeeper in liga mx. Xolos keeper kinda qualifies to. He has been very impressive. is getting very high praises right now. Maybe MVP of the finals ???

I heard he made comments saying he didnt feel American. Perhaps that true and perhaps some dont care. I'm usually the person whose defending Juergen with very pro dual national opinions. I'm very happy with all our duel nationals including chandler. I truely believe he's committed to the US as of now but when players make public statements saying they don't feel American like Thomas Delaney I think it was then I'm not so sure about them. But hey maybe I miss heard or maybe he misspoke so if he does join up ill welcome him with open arms.

Im sure all germericans dont feel Americans. I mean their born and raised in other countries. Every single germerican if given the chance to play for Germany would do so in a heartbeat. most duals have USA as their 2nd choice. Of course Yarborough feels Mexican his home country and raised there.

With young William Yarbrough playing in his second consecutive Liga MX final, raises the question if Klinsmann should find out if he would be interested in playing for the US after the WC.

Now I have previously stated that I think he should choose Mexico. But if he is interested then hell you might as well find out if he is thinking about playing for the States. He is probably the third highest profiled American GK behind Howard and Guzan. Behind Howard and Guzan for the next cycle you have a lot of GK's that haven't really pulled away from the pack e.g. Hamid, Johnson, Irwin, Clark. He could definitely compete for a back-up role. And it seems like Mexico isn't really interested in him.

Might be worth calling him up for the September friendlies.

Lol difficult to find threads now. Anyways he has said before in interviews he feels more Mexican than American. On top of that he doesn't speak English well. And finally usa has plenty of goalkeepers. That is our #1 strength in soccer goalies.

ESPNDeportes is reporting that Yarbrough will be called up to the USMNT for the March friendlies.

Yep. Just saw the Mexican roster and both Alvarado and Yarbrough are not on it.

This could be a coup because Herrera has stated that he was looking to call Yarbrough up for Mexico.

I would have joined Mexico if I were him, it's a much easier route as Ochoa is his only real competition.

Guzan, Hamid, Johnson and possibly a returning Howard is stiff competition.

Technically he's an American Mexican more so than a Mexican American. But either way why not call him in.

Herrera was expecting Yarbrough for mexico he only called up 2 goalkeepers for the march frendlies. Every other time he has called up three that tells me the yarbrough decision was pretty recent and Herrera decided not to call up anyone to replace him. It is a good call up because last year he was one of the top goalkeepers in liga mx. He has fallen of a little bit but I have a feeling he can get back to form. Klinsmann keeping his options open never hurts to introduce fresh faces from liga mx. Even if yarbrough and alvarado dont necessarily pan out to be long term starters. It still sends a message to young americans of mexican descent that the US national team is an option for your future. Also that the US is welcoming dual nationals with open arms. Thats a good message to send as I feel that there can definitely be an elite dual national of mexican descent in the future that will be unearthed.

Agree. Always makes sense to welcome foreigners. It's the American way and not other countries are as equally welcoming (in soccer and life).
