Alright, so I've been away for a little while but nothing says welcome back like a rampant speculation thread!

Ashley Cole being "targeted" but no other new names given. Lamps and Jermaine Defoe mentioned again, but mostly just saying that MLS has sent lots of agents to find mostly Premier League talent to come to the US. So let's speculate!

Friedel? Haven't heard the latest on his coaching badges but if he's got what he needs for now and it wouldn't be to his disadvantage to come back, then I'm 100% positive that someone will pay him the kind of dough he'll ask for. Get him on a player coach contract and you can carry some of that difference on the front end books rather than under the salary cap. Dallas has been looking for a keeper since Hartman retired, and we have two really good really young prospects in Fernandez and Sanchez that could use the guidance and tutilidge of a seasoned pro like him. We still have plenty of cash to splash from the Shea deal so make it happen!! I'm sure that someone else is ahead of us in the allocation draw but we can trade some draft spots and allocation dough or whatever, DO IT!

I'll do some thinking on a few more candidates...its still early and I should probably do some work...any way, discuss!

I believe Defoe officially transferred to Toronto like two weeks ago. It was discussed in depth for awhile.

The newest rumor is Kaka to Orlando City after the world cup. Would be a big splash for an expansion team. NYCFC is doing a good job of being quiet as I havent heard anything regarding a big splash

NYCFC has the money to be top MLS side but its going to be tricky for them. Thankfully we have people like Reyna in that system and maybe soon Kreis to have that franchise up and ruining. As a NY person I pray that they are there own club with their own identity nothing is more killing to a club if its identified obviously to their parents club. If they make NYCFC their own identity and not Man City ver 2 then it will thrive. Hopefully finally we get a real NY team to be proud of and no NY Red Bulls isnt NY its NJ.

DC have the money to make some big off-season acquisitions, but I don't expect them to. Who would be a good fit for them if they were to actually use their $$?

Yep, KAKA and Orlando City's Brazilian owner are good friends. There top priority is securing KAKA's signature after the WC if KAKA is a part of Brazil's WC team.

After the WC I believe you will see some big names that are in the 29 to 32 age range being thrown around for MLS teams.

NYCFC will definitely bring in some name players and I am hopeful NYCFC brings Howard back to MLS. I believe his contract with Everton runs out in 2015. He will be 36. I could also see NYCFC going after Michael Bradley as well.

I did say I'd been gone for a while...good to hear though, get as much international exposure before the expansion.

Gilberto a 24-year old who is the 5th leading goal scorer in Brazil may join TFC. This would be a great signing for the league. Progress has been made with Defoe and he would likely stay with Spurs until March. TFC is heading in the right direction if both join.

If Terrence Boyd doesn't move to a better league in Europe I'd love to see him in the MLS which would be an upgrade from Austria. He's hardly a big ticket name for an expansion team but I would relish seeing him play regularly and I think he could be quite successful in the MLS.

This is something I've harped on quite a bit: the MLS seriously needs to stop going for these English-type players like Beckham, Cahill, Lampard, Defoe, etc. and go for players who don't need talent around them to play their best and can carry a team on their own...players who are actually exciting to watch (the MLS is lacking these)...players who have what most of their MLS guys don't: creativity, technique, flair.

Dropping the ball on Guti was probably one of the worst decisions in the history of the MLS. They wasted another huge opportunity a couple months ago: Pablo Aimar went to play in Indonesia. When you have someone like Pablo Aimar looking for a new culture in which to end his soccer career and he chooses Indonesia...you're doing something seriously wrong. Once again this was a player who fit the above criteria better than any relatively realistic targets out there and none of the MLS owners budged. You have to wonder what is going on here...

Kaka to the MLS would be massive for so many obvious reasons (footballistically, he's the right type of player and still very good; off-the-field and in the locker room, he is the perfect personality and wouldn't party too much or piss off the other players; and his brand is one of the biggest in the world...it's a slam dunk).

There's one other player that would be PERFECT for the MLS, and in fact, they tried to bring him here along with one of his ex-coaches who could have brought this style of play to the MLS (and probably would've made that team the best to watch in MLS history) before his team changed their minds at the last minute...Juan Roman Riquelme. I can only hope that they come to the MLS next season. Has anyone heard any rumors?

Eto'o set to sign in the summer, with a handful of clubs interested. Galaxy, DC, Chivas, Seattle and Chicago are mentioned by name, but I'm sure that anyone will take him given the opportunity and the means.

These papers need to stop mentioning the Galaxy. LA already has 3 DP's.

Maybe they're planning on getting rid of one or more...Donovan is getting on in years.

LA just signed all three i.e. Keane, Gonzo, and Donovan to long term contracts recently. I highly doubt they are looking to get rid of any of them.

Donovan just signed a multi year 4.5 million dollar contract with LA.

To me that speaks to how one can tell these European agents and newspapers don't necessarily understand the way the league works. If they did it would be pretty clear that there aren't any big name European players coming to LA ha. Still, I don't think they're ever going to stop using LAG and NYRB to drive up the asking prices for their players.
