Here is a list of lessons I learnt about the USMNT going into 2014 after an interesting 2013:

Jones- Loses possession far too much and holds bradley back. I don't want him as a starter.

Johanssen- Was a bit overhyped. Is lethal in the box, but in the midfield has far too many errant passes and silly mistakes.

Cameron- 1st choice RB in my opinion.

Brooks- too green for significant minutes at WC. For me the best CB combo may be Goodson and Besler (the coolest heads in our CB pool and complement eachother).

Beasley- still not good enough for me. I would try Lichaj or even bring back Fabian.

Bedoya- not good enough, wasn't able to click with the offense to provide assists and enough oppurtunities to the level that Zusi/FabJ/Donov can. Zusi/FabJ/Donov > Bedoya.

Diskerud- I don't think he is good enough for this level at the world cup. Too easily pushed off the ball, has 1-2 moments of really nice plays, but he is a bench warmer /possible sub.

Shea- you'll never be a starter, but unfortunately you are going to brazil because we have NO WINGERs.

Donovan + Dempsey- still a class player (both).

Kljestan- have we STILL NOT SEEN you paired with Bradley for more than a handful of minutes??? He is nothing more than a CM. Stop trying him at RM, or CAM, he is a CM.

There is my reflection on 2013.

Yea im starting to get pissed with JK and some of his experiments. I mean fine some work some didn't BUT when they keep failing e.i E. Johnson as a LW or Sacha as Wing or CAM then it just get ridiculous. We wanted to try Aron as CAM FINE! It didnt work as nicely as we all though but we move on. We dont try to force it down on them....

This sounds more like a reaction to todays result than to the year in general. Sorry but Gonzo is a starting CB.

We also learned that Jozy Altidore can be a beast if provided service. Remember we all were pretty uncertain of him just a few years ago and entering 2013 there were questions. I could be wrong but I think he scored 8 goals this year for the US and was one of our most important players in WCQ. Imo, he is the USMNT player of the year.

Besler became a fixture as he didn't even start the 1st and perhaps even the 2nd game in WCQ. The Azteca was his coming out party and Gonzo, Cameron and Goodson also proved to step up and be worthwhile as well. Our CB depth is solid.

Zusi also stepped up for the US this year and proved to be a quality option.

For me the one player that I had high expectations for was Josh Gatt. I thought he could have really helped in certain situations but was out for almost the whole year. Tough to never really see him at all for the US in 2013. Same goes for Stu-S-A.

Gonzo only lock in the back line for brazil. He has been the most consistent and solid player in the back.

Gonzo is a lock? I would say Besler and Goodson had better overall 2013 USMNT year than Gonzo. If looking at whole 2013.

Really wow you should hear the experts analyst/commentators they all agree gonzo is a lock. Me myself think he is the best defensive player usa has. and the most overrated is cameron cause they keep moving him. id say next game put gonzo at LB what a circus klissman is.

What I learned:

- Lando and Deuce are still the USMNT's playmakers.

- Wing play needs to get better. I think it will when Lando, Fabian, and Zusi are back. January camp will be telling on who is brought in. Players like Yedlin, Pontius, Zardes, Gil, and possibly Rowe may get called in to provide some attacking wing options.

- Jones holds Bradley back from what he does best. Jones hasn't done himself any favors in 2013.

- Johannsson, Diskerud, and Shea all can be a very effective super subs.

- Kljestan deserves a shot next to Bradley.

- Cameron may be one of the USMNT's most technical players. Needs to be on the field at RB, CB, or DM.

- Still need consistency for a whole game.

Overall a good calendar year, but now it's time to focus on 2014. USA till I die!

Nailed it right in the head! Some of us might freak out over result, decision and all that good stuff but in the end, no matter what happens in the WC USA!!!!. You guys better be wearing that jersey in public come world cup!!! lol
As for the Honduras game it looks like Ecuador took it easy after the 1-0 and then basically dominated their game after 2-1 for Honduras.

Conor O'Brien could finally make his Austrian debut for Wiener Neustadt on Saturday.
