The thing that sticks out the most for me is how thin we are in real difference makers and how difficult it is to truly evaluate players when we are missing those key players. Due to our historic lack of depth of true impact players, every coach, every cycle, we go down to the wire constantly making changes and evaluating talent until the last couple friendlies weeks before the WC. It's also shocking we have so few opportunities in the build up year to the WC to see how the team functions with the majority of our best players together.

I don't mind the result in the Austria game. We're always hopeful that certain combinations of players click or someone like Johannsson lights it up, but the reality is it's just another watered down line up, where barring a major gaffe, we don't learn as much as we'd like. Some player's games would noticeably improve with LD on the field, and some players won't...that's what we really need to determine, but we never have enough opportunities to find that out.

Man I HATE the TV arrangement we have going on here. I don't get NBC Sports and I keep on missing US games. I watched the first thirty minutes on a mediocre stream and then it went out. I go to a local sports bar which has a million TVs, several of which are playing the Argentina and Sweden games (the rest are playing Sportcenter), but none are playing the US game. It took them 20 minutes to change the goddamn channel of the TV next to me. I asked about five people. Spent 6 bucks to watch the last twenty minutes of the game.

It's hilarious seeing the reaction from some of the people here...from what I saw, we had a goal called back, we conceded because of a stupid defensive mistake, and the rest of the game we completely dominated. I don't mind too much losing on the road in a friendly if that's how it happens. I'm also glad because we've been winning so much lately I'm a little afraid of overconfidence.

Brooks was the biggest disappointment to me. Especially in the first 30 minutes (bad stream), I couldn't tell which CB was which. I can't say I could accurately evaluate how he played but he had some real shaky moments and I've been really hoping he could emerge as a starting CB.

Bedoya was also disappointing...he didn't play poorly but he still hasn't done much for the NT. Our attacking mids absolutely suck and he is arguably playing for a better club team than all of our field players save for Bradley. I want to see him played on the left or as the CAM. It's obvious that his tendency is to cut in and attack more centrally, so he's just not that good on the right. The problem is though that's Dempsey's job.

I actually thought Kljestan played quite well, he helped his case. Cameron and Altidore were also good. Maybe Cameron's inconsistency at RB for us has been because he has had difficulty adjusting to the different style and he's figuring it out now (obviously way too early to say so, just thinking aloud). I'd take Cameron at RB over Evans and maybe that's where he'll end up come WC time.

I didn't like the 4-3-3 at the end. The lack of players in the attacking third really holds us back and the only way to get the ball to the forwards is to hoof it towards them. We don't have the type of wingers that could play in a 4-3-3...I could see Dempsey (or maybe Bedoya) as the LW but that's it.

I feel the 4 3 3 at the end didn't work as well as it should because EJ Was there in that position, but we were much more cohesive in the middle. With Donovan and Demps there, not as true wingers, hell EJ wasn't catching anyone off with his pace anyways, but as forwards on the left and right, we should have more creativity. Even if Demps isn't there, and instead Zusi. Who isn't a natural winger, but a better option than EJ

180 minutes against two non World Cup teams. Zero goals. That's what happens when you bring in non international quality players.

there was plenty of "international" quality. just not deployed effectively

only 2 "non-international"
- shea
- wondo (hardly played)

another few on the fringe:
- EJ
- evans
- bedoya
- diskerud

Please for the love of everything holy don't respond to RainorShine.

He is turning into a troll.

God I was just about to say that, we all agree Brek isnt in form, we all agree Jones and MB90 don't work. Unless Jones actually plays CDM.. which apparently JK doesn't have the balls to tell him MB is better than him going forward and you're hurting the team. but holy Sh*t get off Sasha's nuts. We didn't play that poorly, it was a monsoon, we were robbed on a few ocasions and we learned a lot. I don't see how the game was a failure? If i read one more stupid post about Kleijsten is the savior or Adu on this site, I quit

I'd like to see Adu and Kleijsten on the pitch more.

My thoughts on last night's match...

Cameron is a better option at RB than Evans and it clearly showed. Barring Dolo getting back to full form, Cameron is our man.

Brooks looked confused and shakey in the back and was caught out of position multiple times. Great potential, not yet ready to be a starter. Besler is a better pairing for Gonzo at CB. Keeps Gonzo in position and has the composure we need.

Beasley's age and inexperience at the LB international level showed last night. Love the guy's guts but he's going to be a liability next summer. Time to get Fabian back there.

Shea - out of his element. Shouldn't be in Brazil. 'Nuf said.

AJ played decent but at times looked confused. Not the best spot for him. We look better and more dangerous with a 4-4-2. He should be paired with Jozy up top.

Bedoya - not awesome, not bad. Not sure Zusi is a better option so really indifferent between the two.

Jone - what can I say that hasn't been said a thousand times? Good aggressive defending coupled with terrible distribution and his positioning didn't allow Bradley to roam like he needs to. JK needs to get a rope around him.

My starting eleven:

Howard

Cameron (Dolo) Gonzo Besler Fabian

Jones (Sasha sub for more offense)

Dempsey (Bedoya) Bradley Donovan (Mixx/Zusi)

AJ (playmaking) Jozy (target)

With EJ as impact sub for AJ

Gives us the best combination of defensive and attacking players with good ball skills.

Huh? So Jozy, AJ, Bedoya, Bradley, Jones, Cameron, Howard, Brooks, Gonzo

Are all non-international quality players?

Where are all of these international quality players then?

Do people read what they type?

Brooks just recently came back from an inury and im not even sure he's played a full game since returning. So be as harsh as you want on him, but consider the circumstances. Im not quite sure how that goal was completely on him as he was reacting to the player that miskicked the cross, he was thrown off by it. I think he regains his position at Hertha and starts in Brazil. He's quality.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
