So I took a look at Austria's last game which was against the Faroe Islands and here are the numbers:

Austria 3 FI 0

Austria: 67% possession
FI: 33% possession

Austria shots: 16
FI shots16

Austria shots on goal: 5
FI shots on goal: 3

Austria corner kicks: 3
FI conerkicks: 6

Now Obviously Austria won the game, but what's significant is that FI who had far less possession of the ball had the same amount of shots, and only two less shots on goal. FI also had more corner kicks.

So what does this tell you? Austria will try to possess the ball, but since the USMNT is a significantly better opponent then FI is, Austria will not see that type of possession stat against the USMNT.

Second: Austria's defense is prone to lapses and bad giveaways, something the USMNT will definitely try to capitalize on.

Third: While Austria has a couple talented players on the roster i.e. Arnautovic and Alaba the rest of the team is fairly average. Alaba usually plays as a CM for Austria, so if Bradley and Jones, or whoever plays next to Bradley can keep Alaba contained; Austria will suffer greatly.

Fourth: Arnautovic will line up at LW or RW, but he will drift a lot to find the ball and open space. As long as the USMNT can push Aurnatovic into a crowded center then Arnautovic could very well be contained.

The USMNT should be able to impose there will on Austria, but it will come down to Bradley dominating the middle.

Marc Janko will cause some problems, but he is not as dangerous as he used to be.

If AJ starts as a withdrawn FWD, look for him to be the catalyst to egt Jozy in better goal scoring situations. Fuchs and Pogatetz are good defenders, but I like AJ's and Jozy's chances against Austria's backline, especially if Shea who might get the start can cause havoc at LW.

Here is my projected starting 11:

----------Jozy--------
Shea-------Aj-------Bedoya
------Mix-----Bradley-----
Beas---Brooks---Cam----Lichaj
----------Howard-----------

I'd be down for that line up but then I want to see Jones replace bradley at half so we can compare them.

Bradley and Mix only make sense if that plays out like a 4-4-2, which it prolly will with AJ in the "CAM" role.

Mix And Bradley sound good for tomorrow. I think Boyd will get at least 45mins since he plays in Austria.

Can shea really put in a 90 min shift? Maybe we start with a

---Jozy--
Shea--Aj--Bedoya
--Mix--Bradley--
Beas-Brooks-Cam-Lichaj
---Howard---

and then depending on scoreline we go to

---Boyd--
AJ--Mix--Bedoya
--Sacha/Jones--Bradley--
Beas/Lichaj-Brooks-Cam-Lichaj/Evans
---Howard---

notes
-or go 4-4-2 and have johnson in for Mix if he cant put a 90 mins game?
-Wanna see how Lichaj does in both RB and LB and see what he brings in each half.
-Sacha in natural spot to see once and for all his capability and what he will bring to national team. If we are up in scoreline we can see how a Bradley and Sacha pair close a game out?
-Of course we wanna see how brooks does but is it too early I mean he just came from injury and hasn't played consistent game in Hertha Berlin

I agree that Shea probably won't go 90 unless he's tearing it up, but I still don't want to see us move to a single striker when we're clearly more effective with two. I'm fine with starting with the formation and selection that Jzaval01 says should start, it'll be good to see Jozy getting some more service, but once Boyd comes on for Jozy we should move to and stay in a 2 striker setup til the final whistle.

Exactly what lineup should be deployed. IF JK seriously wants to consider his options going forward and not just try to win the game. Actually put Jozy and Iceman on the field together for longer than 20 minutes. Either Mix or SK next MB90 don't care who, just not Jones. He knows what Jones brings give SK a chance.. so he can fail.. so we can stop talking about him..

He knows what Evans and EJ bring.

I'm honestly completely fine with starting Shea to show good faith that "hey Stoke you should probably use him more" Or he could play poorly lol either way just don't start EJ or Evans. Boyd gets 30 minutes, Mix or SK whoever doesn't start gets 30 min, and Gonzo get 30min next to Brooks.

I feel this way precisely. What have we really learned about some of these areas where we know we have questions and multiple options? Can AJ play with Jozy? Can Cameron or Lichaj play RB? Do we have a solid alternate CMF pairing either with Bradley at the 8 or the 6? This is probably my biggest problem with Klinsmann at this point, we have had 3 games in the last 6 weeks with the opportunity to try to find some solutions to these problem areas, and we haven't utilized them. If we trot Evans out at RB today I am going to snap. It couldn't be more clear he is not the answer for Brazil.

You put Shea in for a start and he will crumble. Let him ease into game at 60th minute.

We need to see a Sacha Bradley pairing JUST TO FIND AN ALTERNATIVE when/if Jones gets injured or suspended. We have to find out if Lichaj/Cam can play RB for us, if Evans gets injured or suspended.

But no Jurgen go ahead and try to inflate the winning percentage. And then utilize the experimentation on things that don't need to be experimented on.

As much as I want SK to go away so people can stop talking about him.. it would behoove Jurgen to see if Sasha can play next to Bradley. We all know Jones is picking up 2 yellows in the first 2 games in Brazil.

surprised to see so much support for diskerud

here are some takes from his 3 starts since gold cup

Bosnia
MIX DISKERUD (4.5) (SBI) (only cameron given lower grade) Had a tough time with the physicality of the Bosnian midfielders and defenders and never left his stamp on the game before coming off at halftime.

Jamaica
M Mix Diskerud, 5 (ESPN) (only Donovan given lower grade) - He blew hot and cold in the attack and was guilty of a poor giveaway that sparked a chance for Jamaica.

Panama
Mix Diskerud (5.5) (SBI) (only castillo with lower grade) ... floated in and out of the match...

plus he did nothing interesting for club in entire 2013 (2 goals, 1 assist)

always fascinating to see who USMNT fans become interested in, despite whatever evidence exists. interesting to see if JK gives another start to a guy who clearly has not done much to earn it. obviously a good player, just seems others are more deserving

It's mentally exhausting to read these forums sometimes. Anyways, does anyone know when the lineup comes out? I'm going to be watching the game in my existentialism class haha.
