True, either way, that should not be a problem lol...

Diego Fagundez has been called up by Uruguay's U-20 squad. Uh oh. #USMNT

Smooth move by Uruguay. The US has a lot of quality young prospects of which Fagundez would be one should he receive citizenship. He would be fighting to earn a spot on both national teams. I would definitely accept Uruguay's call up if I were him. He can still stay in the MLS and earn his US citizenship long-term. He just wont be able to play for the MNT.

Honestly it was long overdue. They'd be dumb not to. Sucks that he's been here since he was five and still cant play for any youth teams

If he plays in any official youth tournament before he gets citizenship he will forever be cap tied to Uruguay and ineligible for USA. Includes south American youth championship. I'm happy for him he should play for Uruguay he is from there anyways.

Good for him. It's not like the US doesn't have many talented youth players in his age range anyway.

Another sign of progress from an MLS perspective.

I wish MLS would give young talented players chances. Would like to see more 16-19 year olds playing first team soccer. If you look at many south American clubs they play several players between those ages. That's the only way they will get better and make mls a stronger more atractive league. I mean if Adu debuted at 14 we should of had several players around that age range play by now. But I'm sure in time it will change.

The MLS used to have teenagers getting regular minutes like Convey, Quaranta, Adu and then it just got stupid with the Besagno pick. The quality of the league is too strong now for kids to get minutes. I mean the Galaxy have 17 year old Bradford Jameison but how is he supposed to get first team minutes?

He has played in a camp for uruguay before this isnt his first callup for uruguay. They would be 2 friendly games. He has accepted the call up. It will not be a cap. He is not commiting to uruguay simply letting Uruguay know that he is also intrested in them.

Is a pretty big call considering is a looong trip for a friendly. Uruguay has a lot of talented players coming up. They been in the last 2 finals of youth world cups, Sub 17, Sub 20.

Regardless of who he plays for the fact that a world power considers someone developed in us high schools and then mls is a huge positive.
