For me it is Mix. I know he has his cons in his size, but he has a great understanding of the game.

Jan Camp is for MLS guys, Scandanavian guys, and Euros serving long suspensions (see Joners, Jermaine 2012)

I know who it's for, but he should still be an exception. Or partial

Lol, that's not the point of this thread.

My Bornstein is Brooks Lennon. (close runner ups, Gyau, Rowe, Lleget)

Sorry, I have to chuckle, but Skangles is the one that started this thread.

If he ever got a call up, Kyle Scott would be my Bornstein

I was looking for a Bornstein thread to share the news that he was sort of headed back to Europe depending on your definition of Europe. We didn't have a proper Bornstein thread (shocker!) so I bumped this unrelated thread as it's the closest thing we have.

Anyway, back to the original topic at hand, it's bizarre that I don't really have an irrationally favored player at the moment. I want to see the kids and I'm pleased that Sarachan has been giving them a run out but that's more to see a sneak peak of the future and to help get past the dread of the recent unpleasantness.

I guess I'll go with Hamid. I'm still really high on him as he is a much better player than he showed against Ireland. DC homerism, yes, but he was a boss here for so many years and I can't forget how many results he single handedly pulled out for United.

Since we are in the middle of transitioning 90% of the player pool its hard to pick a single player. I have a handful of players that I'm pulling for, and feel that if they could sort out their club situations and get a real chance at the National team could contribute going forward....even if only as back-ups/depth. Right now I want the following in more USMNT camps/games....
Gooch - When he was actually playing @ Sunderland, he was doing well. If in form I feel he could help on the wing.
Green - He's got the talent to be a real contributor. But many have already written him off for the next great prospect. With his versatility, and still being only 22/23 I still have high hopes for him.
Scott - A known, but unknown quantity. Would love to see him tried as a back-up to Pulisic, or played opposite Pulisic if Pulisic is deployed at a wide position.
Robinson/D.Acosta - LB has been such an issue for us in the past I'm really hoping that Robinson/Acosta can finally provide an answer.
Sargent - We need a reliable striker. Someone who has all the tools; Ruthless in front of goal, technical, makes good runs, has speed, can play physically, but is also willing to help defend; most of us are hoping Sargent will be that guy.
Steffan - We've always had a strong keeper, at least until this past Hex. We need to get back to having a wall in net like we did back when we had Keller, Frediel & Howard as our options. IMO Steffan is leading the way, but I'm hoping that Horvath, Hamid, Gonzalez & Klinsmann will rise to challenge/push him.

I've seen enough of Weah, Parks, Adams, McKennie, Miazga to be disappointed if they're not included going forward....so will assume that they'll be there.

Too easy..my irrationally favored coaches player, aka my Bornstein, would be Jozy...hands down...he cemented his place for eternity against T&T...unwatchable.

Beckerman and Wondolowski were god awful and wouldn't make my adult rec team. To say that they played in the WC, is everything about how corrupt and how bad US management has been.

The most misutilized player in USNT history was Juan Francisco Torres. His technical skill and passing abilities should have made him a starter for years. Coach Bob never gave him a chance and when he did, he was thrown out to the wolves (played as a DM alongside a Michael Bradley with zero defensive responsibilities in the Slovenia match). Klinsmann recognized his talent but then insisted on trying to play him as an attacking mid and, when he wasn't able to adapt, ultimately decided that Torres didn't have the mentality he wanted from his players (or maybe he just didn't think we should have a technically gifted CM). It's a huge shame because he really could have helped us maintain possession.

My Bornstein has to be Aron Johannsson. I think when healthy he is still our most talented striker in our pool. He had potential to be playing for a Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Juventus. Just couldn't defeat the injury bug.
