6' 1" and 170 is a slouch. But that doesn't matter... This is soccer not MMA. Kljestan is good enough at the club level that his NT involvement is a head scratcher. I still believe he makes it to Brazil... However, there is so much we can't see. We don't know what he's like on the training ground for instance... So... Hard to tell if he's really getting a short stick. I do however think JJ is overrated and over the hill a bit. But he's serviceable.[/quote

well, i am comparing to guys like diskerud at 6' 150 or rowe for that matter at 5'8 150. at international level you dont want to rely on those guys for too much dirty work in the middle

i would guess 170 is is safely above average for a pro soccer player. for a comp bastian schwiensteiger comes in at 6'0 174. anyway, his defending, ball-winning is respectable if not super impressive and dont think he is physically over-matched

not a vendetta against mix... just a counter for undue hype of young players. was in the same boat regards to adu and jozy. once jozy started to figure it out and make good on his promise i was on board. adu has not done it (yet)

mix has gotten some looks and he has shone some flashes in those minutes. a lot of the time he has looked pretty mediocre. he has also had a disappointing year (still) in norway. id say he is still very much in "prospect" category. meanwhile, other players are catching up and deserve equal adoration and attention

Your posts do make it appear as if you have a vendetta against Mix. Other players have shown flashes and had mediocre games but you don't single them out and place uncapped guys ahead of them in your depth chart. Altidore comes to mind, he has not had the best of years so far. I think we all know what his potential is. Maybe a move to a different league/team would be good for Mix.

This comes down to the very basic concept when building a sports team. You'll always come to a point where you have to chose potential over a better skilled player. Look at the NFL. Teams roll with rookie quaterbacks when they have 31-32 year old veterans that are clearly better right now. But its the coaches job to look at the big picture and ask himself the question which player gets our team closer to winning a championship (or making a WC QF/SF appearance). In this case JK is looking at it like yes Sasha is better than Mix today, but if I gave every opportunity for minutes to Sasah, or every opportunity for mintues to Mixx (or Rowe, or Torres) who has the chance (key word CHANCE) to be better in Brazil.

Also look at it this way, would Sasha be more prepared to be the 3rd CM in Brazil if he played every available minute than he is by not playing? I personally dont think he'll be any worse if needed by not playing now. Isn't in the coaches best interest to try to bring the team forward as much as possible. I think there's a real solid possibility that if Mixx doesnt improve by Brazil, even though hes been selected over Sasha currently that Sasha goes in his place.

Come Brazil its best 23 people, no ifs and or buts, no potential, just 23 best (that fit the team and playing style obviously). But today should be about bringing in people that need minute/camps/opportunities that can improve between now and Brazil

no i disagree that 2 starts in 41 games is adequate PT for your 3rd CM, who is arguably your 2nd best CM

jones has started 1 of last 5 for schalke

kljestan scored yet another goal today

what's the old English adage: Form is temporary, class is permanent?

Jones plays a different game than Sacha, more defensive.

Also a different level of competition. Sacha should move to a next level league and shine. If we were to use statistics, we should have Wondo as our striker and not Jozy or AJ.

so you think sacha is in good form? since when?
jones does not even need to be playing with club to be a 'class' player?

i agree id play jones as a 6 with sacha and bradley in front of him

Rain's argument against Diskerud is; why has not a better team tried to sign him?

Uhm, that could be said for Kljestan as well. Belgian league isn't much better than the Norwegian league.

higher than champions league?

jones is not really playing in germany (started 1 of last 5). maybe he needs to move down a level and shine. maybe belgium?

what with the vandetta against kljestan? even if they were equal leagues - which is totally preposterous - sacha is much more influential. why would you prefer diskerud?

clear vendetta

Highly preposterous to even suggest I have a vendetta against Kljestan, my good sir.

I believe he is a decent player, but given his skillset he is behind Bradley, Jones, and Diskerud.

I prefer Diskerud because he is much more influential in the attack. Kljestan will move the ball around and look for the easy pass where as Dsikerud will look for defense splitting balls. Kljestan is a poor man's Michael Bradley.

I do enjoy these tete-a-tete's with you Rain.

This thread was really about Kljestan, wasn't it?

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
