Yeah.. Holmes is a few weeks too old for this group. Which is too bad.

Desevio Payne at Gronigen is one name that comes to mind that I'd like to see

If he turns 19 in 2013 then he will be 21 in 2015. So, no Duane Holmes will not be eligible for the 2015 WC. You can't be 20 going on 21 in a U-20 WC year.

That's really a bummer, particularly since the majority of the Olympic Squad is going to be made up of this team and not being able to go will probably retard his ability to fold into the team, on a player-to-player understanding level at the very least.

Yeah I was excited about this cycle before the last one even started the WC, more particularly after Pelosi got injured. I said it on one of these threads haha...

Huh? Duane Holmes will most definitely be in the fold for the Olympics, and I highly doubt the majority of the 2016 Olympic team will be made up of the 2015 U-20 WC team. You have to remember that the 2013 U-20's will be apart of the 2016 Olympic team i.e. Gil, Cropper, O'Neill, Brooks, Zimmerman, Trapp, Stanko, Rodriguez, Duane Holmes, Alonso Hernandez as well as other players that are 23 and under in MLS and Europe. My guess you will see a few 2015 U-20 players on the 2016 Olympic qualifying team.

I'm sensing a new golden generation coming, we haven't had one since the class of 1994 u-17 world cup team. A team that included Beckerman, Donovan, Beasley, and Gooch. I maybe over exaggerating on this, but this new cycle of players are not only talented but getting first team minutes as well..... well some of them that is. Anyways, i'm excited to see the 2015 cycle of players. 2016 Olympics is going to be interesting as well.

For me the 3 most interesting players that could potentially breakout big time are...
Matt Miazga, Junior Flores, and Romain gall.. Maybe novakovich, rubin.. but my first 3 are ready to explode onto the scene and maybe get a call up in the next friendlies before wc.. I seen miazga play and i think he will be the hottest prospect the kid is extremly good.. reminds me of Piquet a lot.. Gall has great vision and field control, idk if he will play for france tho.. Flores has massive potential, hope he chooses usa. He could be the best midfielder for the mnt 3 yrs from now.. wont be surprised if 2 yrs from now he is the #10 for Dortmund, Goetze type of player.

The potential is there....the question will remain can we get our best players released for the qualification process. CONCACAF will host the qualification tournament at a time where our best players (mostly the European) will only be released with their clubs approval.
As more and more of our best talent gets signed earlier it will be harder and harder to get their release from EU Clubs. MLS and MFL are usually good about releasing players but the best players like Gall, Gaitan, Canous, Pfeffer, Flores, Hyndman, Scott, & Specer, (8 of the top 21) will likely only join the WC squad after qualification.
As the rest of CONCACAF improves it will become more difficult to qualify with players from the college ranks.

Yep, and exactly why I don't get up in arms if the US doesn't make U-20 WC's. Because it's rare for the US to have their best players available for the CONCACAF qualifying tournament.

That's why people still think CONCACAF should go back to the old qualifying process where teams play each other in a qualifying round robin round during FIFA international dates.

The US get's hit the hardest with CONCACAF doing this tournament style not during international dates.

But, with saying that there should still be plenty of talent in MLS academies to qualify for U-20 WC's.

And this is why CONCACAF will never change. If your Panama, Guatemala, Honduras, etc you'd never qualify for youth tourneys. At least now Mexico and especially USA is more vulnerable since they usually have a B team
