Tim Howard is very well spoken when put in front of a mic. After his game vs Villa, he will call the Chelsea-City game with Arlo White on Sunday.

Here's what Dietsch said about it on SI:

U.S. national soccer team goalkeeper Tim Howard will serve as the analyst for the Chelsea-Manchester City match next Sunday at noon ET on NBCSN. Arlo White will call the game with Howard, who will be in the booth one day after suiting up for Everton against Aston Villa. "It is the first time we will have an active player in our announce booth," NBC Sports Group coordinating producer Pierre Moossa said.

I think it's great. As he approaches the end of his career (not that it's ending soon) it'll be good to see him prime himself for other opportunities once his playing days are over.

I'd love to see him get in to broadcasting, we are desperately short of halfway decent analysts with experience playing the game at a high level (and for the NT). What about his tourette syndrome though?

Ideally, I'd like to see a player with his passion going into coaching/management, but more power to him.

Yeah, he could only call a game. Couldn't be in the studio with the Tourette's.

You can tell he's still pretty new, and having a bit of a translation issue in terms of him being able to translate the quick thinking he's had to incorporate as part of being an elite athlete, with the commentator that needs to elaborate and stretch out his thoughts with lots of adjectives.

That said, what he lacks in bellicose flourishes he makes up for with his correctness/timing. I've heard plenty of commentators say stuff that is either a stretch or is flatout wrong, and haven't seen Timmy make any such gaffes yet.

I enjoyed what he had to say. He had good observations and an understated casual style...it was a breath of fresh air.
