Today Steven Beitashour was called up to Irans national team. I congruatulate him on the call him up. I am not sure if he would have been able to crack it as the right back for the US so this move makes sense. It is kind of ironic with our backline being a problem we lose a right back who just last season made the mls all star team. In current form he wouldnt be called up but you just have to wonder if he was playing to his form last year would he have become an option at right back.

More power to him, I don't think he's one that we need to keep with all the young talent coming up...he's a good player and I wish him the best, but we've got a lot of players that can fill that RB/RWB role so it's not a big loss for us.

I think this is a win-win for everybody involved. Beitashour should make Iran's World Cup squad and has a good chance to play which is great for him, it also helps Iran shore up their backline so it's good for them. Plus, San Jose will get back a World Cup veteran which will hopefully help him take his game to the next level so good for the MLS.

I don't see Beitashour as a legitimate contender to break the US rotation. I could see him as a Beltran type of player that gets a few minutes in a low profile game.

It's funny or sad that we actually have depth at RB but JK doesn't want to use it: Cameron, Chandler, Lichaj, Yedlin, Parkhurst, Dolo (maybe) plus the Evans experiment. That's really not a bad core.

Wouldnt count on him making the wc squad.. Iran has a pretty solid team... He has to work for his spot.

Is the Asian zone considered to be better than CONCACAF? I am just wondering why they get 4 automatic bids with a possible 5th and we get 3 automatic bids with a possible 4th to the world cup.

Could be due to the fact they have 8 more countries. They have 25% more countries so by having 1 more bid they are essentially saying we are equal. Hard to argue against them being our equal. If there was a tournement with top 4 in each fed, Australia, SK, Japan would always be considered favorites with us and Mexico. Iran, Uzbek, Jordan, NK, Oman, Qatar are all in the same ballpark as Panama, CR, etc

Also after not playing in there first two games he subbed on to officially cap tie himself to Iran. Good luck to him in his attempts to make the team to Brazil. Also it seems he's going by his formal Arabic name of Mehrdad in case anyone cant seem to find him.

He's officially cap tied to Iran. Came into the game in the 2nd half in their Asian Cup qualifier.

Good, I hope he makes their World Cup squad.
