So Guzan backup to Steer today. Really? Guzan must have really pissed off Sherwood. That's ridiculous. I know it's a meaningless game but it's kind of humiliating towards Guzan. IMO

It's pretty common practice when you have nothing left to play for to give the 3rd string keeper a game. I don't believe that Aston Villa was the only team to trot out their 3rd string keeper.

Stoke turned down Aston Villas £10million bid for Begovic. You can look at this as good or bad for Guzan but it should not sit well with him that Sherwood seems to be trying to replace him.

Yeah I never understood why Begovic would want to go to Villa. Stoke is easily better than them. A move to a top 4 team whether in England or another league seems more likely.

So Guzan was in town to visit his parents last week an did an interview in the stands during halftime of the Fire-DC game.

He basically said without saying it (as he's under contract with villa) that while it's in his nature to be a fighter and he would stay and battle at Villa-- he would welcome a move and even back to MLS. He couched it and didn't say those exact words, but anyone listening knew what he meant. He may return sooner rather than later.

That's pretty much a certainty. I meant in regards to MLS. Depends what kinds of offers Villa get for him after the gold cup, I suppose, and which team it is. I'd be surprised to see him accept a backup job or drop down to a lower league instead of returning to America.

If Guzan can get a couple games under his belt I could see him starting in march. The big question will he get enough games down the strech to end up starting the copa america. Also since howard is gone to colorado I have a feeling robles will start the rest of the year unless Robles gets injured. US goalkeeping situation feeling kind of shaky heading into copa america.

Guzan has to be the #1 for the qualies at minimum. He's not the problem at Villa in fact a year ago he was a savior there. I agree that Howard coming back to MLS brings him back to the pack, although it's a lot easier for him to be available living in Colorado. I always support my Chicago brethren, and Guzan is no different. Quality keeper dragged down by his club situation, but I have confidence he will stay strong mental and find a new club. I believe in him as the keeper- as the national team goes, keeper is the least of our worries.

You'd have to think Howard will be riding the bench a lot for the rest of the season at Everton. Guzan should finally get his first real opportunity to be the #1 for USMNT. It's his to lose.

The streak lives on.

Guzan is going to Middlesboro on a free transfer to keep the streak of American goalies in EPL going strong. He will have to fight to become the #1 but judging by the fact that they'll likely struggle to avoid relegation he'll surely get his chances throughout the year.
