Statistically Rimando is the greatest goalie in ussoccer History. But played mostly weak opponents.

Idk if he is better than Howard. Pretty hard to really say but true Howard does have a top tier defense back line. Guzan should be in a better team but the fact that he is "American" hurts him. Guzan should be in a top 6 team as a starter.

Not sure I agree with that. Guzan is good, but the only team I could maaaaybe see him starting for is Arsenal.

Spurs: Lloris > Guzan
United: De Gea > Guzan
Everton: Howard > Guzan
Arsenal: Sczcesny/Fabianski = Guzan
City: Hart > Guzan
Liverpool: Mignolet > Guzan
Chelsea: Cech > Guzan

hart you got to be kidding me. maybe you dont watch the epl and cech 5 years ago yes now no. Mignolet i havent seen play enough to judge and De Gea to me is good but not great he has a good defense without it im not sure he would be a top 5 gk in the epl. To be clear im not a guzan fan im just responding to the face you think some of these guys are better then him. I mean i think if not for his size nick rimando is better then hart

Have to agree with this. Hart has those moments. But regardless all these keepers get the spotlight. Which means they get more attention and logically they are seen as better because they play for a better team. If guzan was in lets say Arsenal making those quality saves he would be more recognized and maybe even rated higher than Howard but we will never know

The only one I could see being wrong about is Hart. He has his brain farts. I will not budge on my assertion that De Gea and Mignolet are better. De Gea does not have a good backline. They've given up the most goals of the top 6 teams. He, however, has been great for them this season. He had growing pains at United, but has finally rounded into the fantastic keeper that everyone thought he would be. And Mignolet has been fortunate with a strong backline, but he has also been phenomenal this season. And Cech? Please. He is absolutely still one of the top 3 keepers in the EPL. Guy is still one of the best in the world.

Again, I like Guzan. I think he's a great keeper. And if he were on some of these teams, and given the starting job, I'm sure he would impress. However, I'm not gonna be a homer and say he is better than these other keepers.

I dont know how Guzan does it. Consistently put in bad spots and does great work. This game is no different.

I feel a bit bad for Guzan, his front 10 are getting absolutely smothered!

Or Guzan needs to move to a club with a better backline.

Guzan is not as good as you guys wish he was.

But sure, go ahead and keep believing that directors of football and goalkeeping coaches at numerous top clubs with millions of dollars riding on the smallest of margins are less adept at evaluating talent than us keyboard jockeys.

I'm usually the first one to temper American bias. I think a lot of people on this site rate a lot of our guys way too highly. I was one of the guys trying to convince people that we don't have any world class players.

However, Guzan is as good as we think he is. He showed that last season when he was named Villa's player of the season, and he has been solid again this season. If he moved to a club with a better defense, people would consider him a top 10 keeper in the league. And frankly, I think he might be there already.

It's funny that you say this yet give no evidence why.

I've seen Guzan play quite a bit. His positioning is decent, he's incredibly acrobatic, but his distribution is still lacking and he can't marshal his back line as well as he should. He would have significantly more shutouts this year if AV could actually defend. He's good, better-than-average, but probably not world class. Additionally, definitely not better than Howard, for now... in my opinion.

I don't think Guzan was as good this year as he was last year for AV. But he needs a better defense in front of him.

I totally agree, Guzan is a good keeper but he has weaknesses and definately had a bit of a drop off in form this year. However, isn't AV the youngest squad in the Prem this year? and good defending is very much based on experience.
