A win for Hertha and Brooks. Seems like well have a defenders in the champions league next season. Saw bit of the first and 2nd half and loving how brooks is playing and his on the ball skills.

Seems like we can lock in Brooks and Miazga for the next decade barring injuries or even better players surpassing them. A great problem to have. Will Brooks start over Besler in the qualifiers??? For me, he has to. Brooks will be our starter in Russia at LCB so let him have his run. Playing Besler sort of does nothing for me when you realize there are only a few others who, barring unforeseen circumstances, are already in the Russia 2018 starting XI. You build with guys like that and fill the roster in around them. Besler has done nothing wrong but he's not as good, simply put, as Brooks.

I think Brooks gets the start in the March Qualifiers for the simple reason that he'll be more game fit. The MLS season just started so Besler is likely not as fit or game sharp. This isn't a knock against Besler its just a fact based on how the European & MLS schedules impact player form. Besler may be a better option to start come summer when he's fully game fit and Brooks may be tired after a long season.

It may be a bit too early to lock Miazga in for the next decade. He's potentially a great talent, as is CCV, but he has yet to play at all for Chelsea. Until they are constantly playing and performing for their clubs 1st teams (whether loaned out or not) than I'm holding off on anointing them locks. There are too many good young CBs currently working their way up the depth charts with their clubs.

It's a big hill for him to climb over Cameron and the potential of the young RCBs as mentioned on the other thread...

I'm not saying it's all because JAB wasn't in the lineup, but I find it rather interesting that with him out of the lineup for the first time in a while, Hertha let in the most goals they have all season. Think it says something about his importance to the club. With that said though, I still think Gladbach would have won comfortably even with him in the lineup. They looked unstoppable today.

I think it's quite clear Brooks is the reason why Herthas defense has been stellar.

I'm not a medical professional, anyone know downtime on this? With Brook's history with injuries lately should we be concerned?

Im no expert but Id bet he is down for the summer. I doubt he plays any remaining Hertha games and Id consider him a bonus for the June Qualies but would plan to not have him. Will be a big loss without him in there at Mexico

Yea that's not good news. Can Ream and Cameron do the job vs T&T? I think so, and I don't believe Brooks is ready mentally in concacaf for a Mexico- at the Azteca- anyway. He's crumbled vs Costa Rica and against Jamaica in the gold cup, Mexico is another level of player. I hope for his international and regional development that he can make that game, but he fills me with no more confidence than Ream, Besler or Zimmerman for that particular match.

Brooks has been by far our best CB for the past 4 years.
This discussion is silly.
Brooks has been rated by Bayern Munich and several premier league sides.

Ream, Besler, and Zimmerman couldn't make Hertha Berlin's practice squad.
Those minutes would be better off going to Miazaga, CCV, EPB.
Again, US Soccer public do better.

I think Ham is referring to him being partnered with a lesser CB and organizing the defense by himself, see Costa Rica. Cameron will be able to partner anyone and keep his head while organizing. I don't believe his technical ability is being called into question, just the maturity level to handle the atmosphere with the responsibility. Having Tim back in goal would probably help out

How many national teams are running out 18-22 year old CB's (only 1 of whom has been capped at the senior level) for a critical qualifier? Maybe you could argue Miazga, given that he's playing in a reasonably high level league. But CCV and EPB? That's Xbox talk.

And considering Ream is starting on a promotion contending Fulham team, I'm guessing he'd be good enough for Hertha's practice squad.
