at the moment brooks can no longer be considered a good for brazil

in a 3 -man back line:

1) goodson
2) cameron
3) besler
4) gonzo
5) orozco
6) ream

3 man backline isn't going to happen, so I don't see the point on continuing to post about it.

Goodson-Besler pairing or Omar-Besler pairing if I were a betting man, for WC. Cameron to be RB.

I believe usa allowed the least goals in 2013 than any other year. The backline was pretty good all year except for.a few games which happens to every team in tge world. Gonzo and beasley played the most mins. i think gonzo will be a lock for the wc since he is the most experienced cb. Brooks will make it if he comes back and starts.regularly in the bundesliga. Besler still.questionable, he got benched earlier in the season so who knows next yr. Cameron will keep playing rb. Fabian i have no doubt will be used.at lb for the wc. I think our backline will be good come.wc. my only concern is a wing and a pairing for bradley. Also i like our depth going to the world cup.

I'm a fan of the 3 back line, Liverpool runs it from time to time......but JK has not used it AT all, so he is all of sudden going to with a total of 4-5 games to iron it out before the WC. Don't think so. Arena over Jk.....please, get off that snuff.

Arena over JK? Are you drunk rain? I'm fine with a four man back line.

We still can't find a way for a 2 CM system to work after how many games now, yet we are capable enough to make a 3 man backline work? Move on.

I would be fine with working on a 3 man backline if this were a new WC cycle.

4 man backline will stay and rightfully so.

oh right, because US had been playing 3-5-2 all through the 02 cycle...

WRONG. in 98-02 US played 4-man back line all the way through the group stage in korea/japan. after giving up 3 goals and playing like crap v poland in final group game, arena scrapped what he was doing and went with a 3-5-2 to win the KO round game and then to give germany all they could handle in the QF

he simply had an idea about something that would work and went with it

---------mcbride---------
---------donovan---------
----obrien--------reyna----
lewis------mastroeni----hejduk
----berhalter-pope-sanneh----

if arena can pull this out between last group game and round of 16 game it is absolutely ridiculous to suggest it is "too late" to use a "different" formation

goodson < pope
besler = berhalter
cameron = sanneh
fabian > lewis
chandler > hejduk
clark = mastroeni
kljestan = obrien
bradley = reyna
donovan = donovan
altidore > mcbride

1 clear advantage in 02 team - pope v goodson or gonzo. overall, more talent in 14 group and have the perfect pieces to run that system

and yes, sacha is every bit as good JOB, who had more than 20 apps in one season and generally played LB for ajax

bradley offers a different skillset than reyna, but equal talent

kljestan/bradley = obrien/reyna

There is a difference btw choosing to play the 3-5-2 and being forced to. Hejduk and Agoos were both out the initial match against Mexico. That would put the best players available on the pitch. It worked well, withstood the pressure and got stuff opening on the counter, so of course he carried it over to the Germany game who was much better than Mexico. They basically bunkered and countered....JK doesn't play it that way nor did they play a high line. Also Clark isn't happening and Kljestan being as good as JOB is laughable.
